EMVI Home Theater PC & XPC - Opinions Please

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been running this store for a few months now and am regularly tweaking it & adding new things to it.

Emvi - Entertainment, Music, Video, Information

I would welcome the comments (good or bad) and criticism of my store as well as any suggestions you have to improve or fix whatever you think is bad!

I am currently working on the Custom Computer Creator so a customer can easily "build" their own Shuttle XPC, Hush PC, Tranquil PC, HTPC and any PC's others that come along...(so you don't need to tell me to get the CCC on my site quick!).

I won't take offence, so all comments most welcome.

Thanks in advance all :)

Regards

Steve

1) Very stock layout. Nothing that would keep me on the site longer than a minute or so.

2) If you change the color of the box headers, then you should update the corners or get rid of them. The color difference is goofy.

3) Use a proofreader. Your Cart Contents button reads as Cart Cotents, and there are a couple textual misspellings here and there in your site as well.

Appreciate feedback Aodhan

That's my biggest problem, I know. I am working on a front page (index page) to then lead to the store that will have more info and attention grabbing (customer keeping) stuff on it).

2) If you change the color of the box headers, then you should update the corners or get rid of them. The color difference is goofy.

Good point - will look at that asap.

3) Use a proofreader. Your Cart Contents button reads as Cart Cotents, and there are a couple textual misspellings here and there in your site as well.

Cart Contents sorted, can't believe I missed that. Will check rest of site.

Thanks for that. keep it coming folks, it's all useful. :D

TIA

Steve

If your main business is selling stuff do not put an leading index page (do Amazon do this), go straight to your selling pages.

If you are not selling stuff then generally it is because nobody wants the product or your selling pages look too amature.

Thanks mikeq & ModYourCar.

I agree that it's a tad confusing at the mo. Hence the work going on with the Custom Computer Creator to make it easier for csutomers to pick what they want in a PC quickly.

Do you mean like it is now where you go staight into the store? If so I think I will be leaving it like this, with just some alterations to the main page.

Ditch the front page, go straight to the shop!!!

Do you mean ditch the front page as it is now?

Cheers

Steve

Overall, I can see where you are going with this, but at the moment it's a very poorly looking Shop.

1/ You have the gray boxes in the top of the infoboxes.

2/ You have a green line around the infobox (where the majority of the site is blue

3/ It's very Stock Oscommerce layout, but at least you have retained the copyright Oscommerce.

4/ I like the 3 buttons at the top right of the header, but these would look better if they aligned to the top of the browser.

5/ Too many infoboxes (if only people would take a moment to think - most of the infoboxes are irrelevant and un-needed)

6/ Your EMVI logo really sucks. Make it so that it is memorable - a picture paints 1000 words.

7/ Gray rollover links on a white background is not good

8/ I also kind of like your buttons (add to cart, reviews etc). They look computery.

9/ I think you are in the UK - don't fall foul of the Distance Selling regulations...

Overall, it's boring but functional.

Thanks for the comments burt, you will see I ahve taken them to heart and acted on them.

Changed to all Blue now. I think it looks better.

3/ It's very Stock Oscommerce layout, but at least you have retained the copyright Oscommerce.

It may change over time as I become more experienced but I like it for now.

4/ I like the 3 buttons at the top right of the header, but these would look better if they aligned to the top of the browser.

Not quiet sure what you mean here. Do you mean the fact that there is a tiny white gap above the icons?

5/ Too many infoboxes (if only people would take a moment to think - most of the infoboxes are irrelevant and un-needed)

I definately agree, been meaning to sort the infoboxes for a while...and now I have removed the superfluous ones...! Thanks for the nudge :-)

6/ Your EMVI logo really sucks. Make it so that it is memorable - a picture paints 1000 words.

That bad eh! Well I tend to agree but my graphics work os not the best. But I am looking intoi a decent logo/header for the top as the top is a tad blank/bear.

8/ I also kind of like your buttons (add to cart, reviews etc). They look computery.

Thanks :D

Any particular part of it I should look out for? You sound like something has happened to you in the past? Any advice would be great.

Well...just spit it right out won't you ;)

i have changed the front page numerous times to try and get a catchy look and feel to it and am struggling. I will keep going though. If you have any suggestions as to how I can beef it up please let me know.

The Custom Computer Builder will be online soon which I think will help a lot as it will be easier for customers to get PC's together.

Thanks again guys.

keep it coming please.

Regards

Steve
