Guest
I personally have had no problems with checking out in my own store but I hav e had 2 buyers claim that they cannot checkout. They say thta when they attempt checkout they are brought back to the login screen. They enter their login info and it accpets it. Then, when they attempt checkout again, the whole process repeats over and over. They never actually get to the checkout process. The only similarity in these customers as far as I can see is that they are using an AOL connection. Anyone have this problem before? What ws the problem? Is there a solutiuon? Thank in advance. By the way, I am very thankful for the Recover Cart Sales contrib. I have been able to make 2 sales so far in the last 2 weeks because of it. Also, it has helped me find out if customers had problems at checkout as well (like this one).
1quicksi
Sounds like they are not truely logging in (accepting a cookie). Does the system say welcome to them personaly or is it the default OSC guest? If I am not mistaken I think there weas a thread about this not too long ago? knowledge base | Contributions | Search
Guest
I thought there was a thread about it too, but i cannot find it. I don't know what the details are that you are asking for. THe buyers would not go into much detail. I find that buyers get too frustrated and stop giving info after the first email you send them in reply to their problem. THey just don;t reply anymoer and probably go elsewhere to buy it. As for cookies. Are you saying that you have to have cookies enabled to log into an OSC store? I don't know much about cookies, all I know is that i delete cookies out of my "cookies" folder every week or so :D Oh well, anymore thought, experiences, etc on this would be appreciated. NOw I am really confused. I use adaware for my PC, but how is Ad-aware relevent to this thread??? Perhaps I missed somehting. How could a program that removes malicious code and spyware from a PC do anything for my OSC website that does not reside on my computer but rather on my host's server. fgwhite
I have seen this issue while working on my store. I think it's a cookie issue. Once I deleted my cookies the issue was resolved. This assumes that it worked correctly at some point. If it never worked correctly check your cookie url in includes/configure.php. You can also download the Mozilla brower and see if it works that browser. http://www.mozilla.org/ Thanks! Frank Ever wish people could recover from a "fatal error?" ♥Vger
Hello, I am having the same problem which is being discussed in this thread. Can anyone help? Okay, a few pointers I have come across. 1. Yes, you do have to have cookies enabled to use osCommerce. 2. To 'Sign-up' or to 'Login' cookies have to be accessible via https not http, or else you'll end up back at the Login screen time and time again. So, for this, you need to alter the configure.php file in oscommerce/includes so that the cookie setting is for https. You'll need to chmod the file to 644 to alter it, and then chmod it back to 400 when finished. 3. The AOL browser is pants, and I don't understand why anyone would want to use it. IE comes bundled with the AOL disc, use the AOL connection (if you feel you must) but use the IE browser. Advise customers that the site may not operate correctly in their AOL browser - that's what most companies do! 4. You will have a problem relaying e-mails to AOL customers from now on - as they have brought in yet another 'new e-mail policy'. Basically, to try and cut down on spam, they are comparing dial-up IP addresses against e-mail smtp addresses, and if they don't match up the e-mail bounces. So, if you are using the smtp service of your own website, with a dial-up, the e-mail will bounce. From now on you'll have to use the smtp service of your dial-up provider. Kind of makes your own website's smtp service redundant (at least as far as AOL is concerned). Vger
Pamela
Dear Carlo, No I am not on AOL. It is really strange. I can checkout with my notebook but not with my desktop. I am thinking I probably do have something lurking in my computer :-( I will run the Adaware and see if that helps. I am concerned though that some of my customers who don't know about this will just giveup and not bother shopping at my site.
Guest
I am so sorry to hear that cookies must be enabled to checkout properly. Telling customers to enable their cookies is perceived as negative. Cookies have gotten a bad name. ALso, to say or disply that AOL users might have problems checking out, well, I don't know about that. I have noticed that about 70% of my orders come from folks with aol addresses. I also noticed that 70% of my abandoned carts are also AOL users. What a bummer. fiat707
I seem to remember that in order to resolve AOL browser issue, "Check IP address" has to be set as "False" in Admin. Can Carlo look into your store setting and see if this solve your AOL customers' problem? Let us know the result. Thanks KF

Also, would there be a disadvantage to setting it to false?
fiat707
I believe it is at: Admin - Confirguration - sessions - Check IP address Well, obviously your osC won't be checking visitors' IP address and you won't be knowing them. Is that a disadvantage to you? KF

Guest
I am having a similar problem (if not the same one) Just got an email from a customer, saying the Shopping cart doesn't work (really rude email - no description, nothing, just it doesn't work, you lost a sale) So, I go tot he website, run a test sale, it seems to work ok, I go back to try another, I select the product, add to the cart, tell it to go to the checkout, and it askes me to log in (I've already logged in at the start - from the first page). I log in, and it goes to the cart - which is empty! I go back to the product page, select a product, add to cart, go to check out, it wants me to sign in again. I do. It goes to cart, which is empty! The only way I get around this is to close the browser and reopen it, and start over again. What am I doing wrong? What have I got set wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I like this cart, and I don't want to setup and move to something different - but I need reliability, and dependability. Thanks in advance. tjangels
I am getting the same results as from above where I am testing my website to see if I can place an order and it says my shopping cart is empty, I retry buying the same thing and again it says my shopping cart is empty...what do I have to do to make this work? Geotex
Really had to hunt for this thread as got burried very quickly. AOL is a problem, but the solution is in the configuration. I have several customers all using various shared ssl's. Diggin into the problem, found the errors were in the configure.php files. Key seemed to be building the paths. Define your http and https servers at basic url and build the directories from there. An example is below. Had to sign up for AOL9 :( to get these files working. Also, in admin/configure/sessions, I set all options to false, but can't be sure that this is totally necessary. define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://mywebsite.com'); define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://www.securesever.com'); define('ENABLE_SSL', true); define('HTTP_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'mywebsite.com'); define('HTTPS_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'www.securesever.com'); define('HTTP_COOKIE_PATH', '/catalog/'); define('HTTPS_COOKIE_PATH', '/mywebsite.com/catalog/'); define('DIR_WS_HTTP_CATALOG', '/catalog/'); define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/mywebsite.com/catalog/'); define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'images/'); define('DIR_WS_ICONS', DIR_WS_IMAGES .
