digital3
Hi, I am trying to find out how to change the password for the admin section. I have looked around the boards and faq etc but can not find anything relevent. Is there a way i can change it, by tapping in my old password and entering my new one?????? Thanks
♥Vger
How did you instal osCommerce? My Control Panel installs it for me (1-click), and all I have to do is to select an admin name and password. If I then want to change it I go to my domains' Control Panel and just update the password in the way you described. Vger
digital3
Hi, Yes i did install it via my control panel (cpanel) but it is actually installed on a subdomain. So what i am trying to do is change the password of the actual oscommerce shop so it is different from the other shops that i have on other subdomains. So i can grant access to that shops admin page of that particular shop to someone else but they will not have access to the other ones.
241
Do you have actual login screens or just the standard .htaccess screen? can you post a url to an admin login so that I can see if this is a full login screen or an .htaccess login screen. Guest
osCommerce does not control how the password is set, that is controlled by your host. you should send an email to your host tech support asking how to access or create the .htaccess file as well as changing the password. digital3
I do have access to my .htpasswds folders, but obviously these have been encrypted. So if i changed that i wouldn't know what it is changed to. Is there any way i can change it via the sql database?
241
it is most likely that this is encrypted, however the answer to your question is yes a password can be changed via the sql database. I have recovered to working status several admins that people are locked out of via this method, however this is only relevent where an admin login is in use rather than an .htaccess No longer giving free advice. Guest
changing the .htaccess via mysql is not a possibility, as a .htaccess file is not a part of mysql but a part of unix/linux, etc. there is a contribution on .htaccess to understand how that works, also on my ftp site ftp.recoverdata.com and download htaccessinfo.txt which will show you how it is setup, how to change passwords, etc. it is a function of the operating system, not oscommerce. You don't actually have to keep the oscommerce 'admin' section within oscommerce, though you may have to update a few links. In fact, it is advisable to change the name of 'admin' to something else entirely, and to keep it somewhere behind a password protected folder or within an ssl. Don't really know CPanel (it's pretty ancient technology now), only Ensim and Helm. Vger
