Is there a fast way to create fixed sized thumbnls

Is there an app that allows you to create fixed sized thumbnails from the larger files?

I usually end up using photoshop to scale them down and then sharpen then.

Is there an easier way to do this when you are trying to load hundreds or thousands of images?

Thanks for any advice

yes....using the Batch open

You tell photoshop what action to run

look into what folder.

Your action in photoshop will handle the save and to what folder.

Very...very easy.

There is many other apps but I only know of OSX.

If you want to make thumbnails for your OSC site then there is a contribution which autometicaly makes thumbnails and stores in a new folder when the image is first displayed.

Yes, the application that sets up fixed-size thumbnails from your larger images is - osCommerce. It does it automatically. I found this out only a few days ago, when I wondered why my 100x100 pixel images weren't displaying in a larger size when I clicked on 'enlarge image'. 100x100 is the size of the thumbnail, so that's all I was getting. You can set the size you want your thumbnail to be, only I can't remember where now! Vger

Vger,

No, I don't agree with using scaled down full sized images. They take way too long to load. You end up displaying an image that should be 3-4k and it is actually 40-50k download just for the one pic.

Makes for a very slow website. But that's just my opinion.

I take your point, but if you're using gifs it's more like 3-4k to 10-12k. It only makes a difference if you have lots of images on each and every page - and only then if the customer has a slow connection. Vger

I highly agree with yogidegr8 about the Automatic Thumbnail Creator.

But...if you want to do it yourself then my personal favorite is Irfanview. It's free, fast, gives good advanced options for batch conversion and rename. Did I mention it's free?
