Quick Setup Issues

Hi folks,

Sorry to bother you, but I am stymied. Old host used an online/template driven shopping cart and I can't seem to make heads or tails out of this osCommerce solution.

I have tried to get things going through osCommerce Admin, but the product configuration that Admin seems to offer does not give me the same features/look that the demo items have. My new host has PHP 4.3.2, with MySQL and PHPAdmin in a WebHost Manager/CPanel configuration that installed osCommerce from a script. I am relatively new to all of these.

My target site is available at Get Me? Foods. This site uses three frames and I would like just the center section of the demo store to occupy the lower right frame, removing both outer columns. This doesn't appear to be possible through the osCommerce Admin panel and the install of osCommerce I received from the host's script has a ton of redundancy built into it. I assume all of this redundancy cannot be necessary, but am at a loss as to what can be deleted while keeping the whole show operational.

How is the look and feel of the site modified, if not through OSC ADMIN? Do I modify the files offline and upload them via FTP? Which versions of files need to be modified? Will this work?

How does PHP and MySQL interact with OSC? Are they all necessary?

I have product catalogs in CVS files from the old host. How/where can I upload them? I thought the homepage said this was simple to work with. I have found it anything but. Is it too much to ask for an intuitive, GUI interface for osCommerce? If there is one out there, please tell me where. My head is spinning?

Best regards and thanks for the help,

Mark Harrison

it looks like your host has modified the store for you. i recommend (personal experience) that php be at 4.3.3 or higher, when you do decide to upgrade to MS2 you will definitely need it.

for modifying the site, you do it via php programming, you can do it live online or as most do, modify locally then upload. i recommend you have a live store and a development store, that way if you make mistakes, yo dont take your store down.
