aol.com not receiving emails

Hi All,

I just recently went live and a customer just informed me that she is not receiving emails from my shop to aol.com.

Sure enough I used a test aol account that I have and requested a forgotten password and it never arrived. I then went to Admin and sent an email to my aol account. That didn't make it either.

There doesn't seem to be any problems sending to non-aol accounts.

We're both using AOL version 9.0. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Probably due to AOL anti spam filtering and the way they block address, also the way they set permissions.

You would need to check whether the emails are being sent anon with nobody as return address, as a nobody return address would be classed as spam.

No longer giving free advice. Please place deposit in meter slot provided.  Individual: [=] SME: [==] Corporation: [===]
If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! :P

I noticed when I turned Spam Assassin on with my Cpanel it labled the test email gift vouchers from my store as possible spam. It scored the test emails high on the possible spam score because the emails were relayed.

Another reason to whack them spammers upside the head with a big tuna when you see one.

Have you checked to make sure that they didn't end up in your "Spam Folder" rather than just not being sent?

To do this, click on your mailbox, and in the lower left hand corner of the main window, you will see a link that says "Spam Folder" and if there is anything in it, there will be a number that signifies the amount of emails it has in it.

Talk nicely to your ISP and ask them to add your domain to their Open Relay. It took us ages but finally we managed it.

Try and get a copy of the return message (ask your host to rescue it from their email logs). It should give you a clue as to the exact reason why AOL doesnt want to play ball with you.

OK - what's happening is this! AOL have implemented a new e-mail policy - in an attempt to beat spammers. But it is impacting upon all legitimate businesses. What they are doing (gathered from their own site) is to match the dial-up you are using to the smtp address you are using, and if they don't match the e-mail is bouncing. In my case if I use a Freeserve dial-up and send e-mails to aol customers using smtp.freeserve.com no problems! If I use my sites' own smtp facilities it gets blocked - because the isp and the domain don't match. Anyone who says AOL are sane - needs to get their own head examined! Vger
