Guest Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 As I stated I am brand new to this software and have some questions before jumping in and making a mess of things. My situation is that the company I contract under will not allow me to post prices on my website for any product. Using this database can I 1. Add a link to each of my current web pages that allow a "add to cart function" 2. Enter all of my product in the database with $0.00 value 3. allow customer to keep adding from my current site until the want to "checkout" 4. At this time collect all customer information (except CC#) and have result mailed to my sales address where I can plug in the numbers for a quote and email them back. Or is there a way I can have them apply for a "private" account where I have to validate them. Once validated they could log into the database complete with dollar values, payment options. My assumption is that I would not be in violation with my company as I am not posting "live" on the web? Hope this is understandable and someone is willing to assist me as this is extremely critical to my livelyhood. Thanks, Norm

Thanks, Norm Hi nstokes, I'm also new to this software, but I'll try and answer your questions: 1. Add a link to each of my current web pages that allow a "add to cart function" When you add a product to the new osCommerce website, there is a field called Products URL. I'm guessing you'll be able to provide the URL to whatever website you have this product on. 2. Enter all of my product in the database with $0.00 value This is possible, as you just enter '0' in the required fields when creating the new product details. If you'll be entering the prices at a later date, though, you could enter the current prices anyway, but edit the code so that the prices aren't shown publically. 3. allow customer to keep adding from my current site until the want to "checkout" Pass :P 4. At this time collect all customer information (except CC#) and have result mailed to my sales address where I can plug in the numbers for a quote and email them back. This 'should' be possible providing the customers are willing to submit their details. You may want to inform them of the process before-hand, though, to save any confusion their end! My apologises if the answers I've provided are incorrect, but I'm sure someone else will verify that for me ;)
Guest Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 Your second option is the simplest - there are account approval contributions - it is simple enough to hide prices until an approved customer is logged in. There is a new contribution called 'Click for Price' - I believe it was designed for this situation - to me, having 'click for price' on every product is rather messy compared to an approved account system, but in some situtions (where only some products need prices hidden) it may be the better option. Guest Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 [Your second option is the simplest - there are account approval contributions - it is simple enough to hide prices until an approved customer is logged in. ] Looks like I need to download the manual andstart reading. Most of the setup makes sense but I would need to have an entry page forcing either loging or application for account before I allow to the product pages with pricing. If I could secure this I could then also do online payments. <_< that would bring another issue, I sell whosale or retail depending on the account type. Sucks to be me and have an ideal :( I was kind of hoping to to all of the above but utilize my current "informational" site and add shopping cart code to each of those pages. This will work perfect for my other product line that does not have these restrictions
Guest Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 A combination of Contributions will allow you to do all that you require - yes, there is a little work involved, but these forums are great if you get stuck! :P Have a poke around in the above - try to choose contributions which are compatible with your version (MS2 I would hope).
