PayPal IPN

What information does this contribution actually send to PayPal? Does it send the name of the site and/or the contents of the cart, or just the order total?

I am designing a site for someone, and it is adult related, so my client wants this to be anonymous. Will the PayPal IPN work for this reason, or will he have to not include it?

Please, any help is apreciated. Thanks.

Paypal IPN send all the information to paypal as does the default module in OSC. But if the customer do not press the continue button after making the payment through paypal, the order does not get stored in OSC database.

Pypal IPN module stores the order details before the customers loeaves your site and goes to paypal site to pay, and once he made the payment, an instant notification is sent to your site and database of your site vgets updated with paypal transaction information even without customer pressing the button "Continue"

I always recommend to use paypal IPN for any osc site to avoid msiisng of any order.

okay, I see that it sends the name of the site as part of the address, and also the business name. It doenst actually send the carts contents though, right?

Also, I have to versions of the IPN. One is by iSolutions Plus and the other is by someone else. Which one should I use?

Paypal DOES NOT allow you to do adult transactions. My advice..dont even bother setting it up because they will catch up with you and your gonna be back at ground zero to find another processor. Been there, done that, and paypal figured it out!

I just went to the epassporte site to check it out and the site loaded a virus onto my computer! Luckily kaspersky AV caught it. I dont think I will be using them as a merchant if they cant keep their own site secure. I guess 2checkout is the way to go in my case.

Thanks again for the help.

I doubt epassporte tried to load a virus on your system. They are part of Epoch and are pretty big in the e-commerce world. There are a couple of misspelled domains that will cirle jerk you if you dont get the right domain. I would indeed go with 2checkout though. One of my hosts uses them to bill us and its a nice system to use. All I can say Goanna is welcome to the dark side, the adult web scene is a rough place to work so watch your back. My back is full of knife wounds after 7 years in that business....lol.

This will be my first try at a mainstream g-rated ecommerce site. Think I can still generate 2 million hits a month like my adult site does?? Think osc would handle that?

Well, I am doing the site for a client, but I have other sites as well. Albeit most of my sites are pretty much based on controversial subjects, even if not adult related, lol.

I do have some normall work though also. I do small sites for local hotels, bars, stores, etc.

As for that virus, I went to www.epassporte.com and went to an information page on becoming a merchant, and I got a popup that the site tried to load a virus onto my system. It was the only browser window I had open and I had no P2P software running in the background or anything. Is the site I went to the one that you are thinking of?

I just went back to the site, clicked on the e-commerce/merchants link on the bottom, and it happened again. If any of you have been to that site recently, I would recomend getting a new AV update and doing a full system scan.
