Storing Payment profile with Customer?

Recommended Posts

Dear all:

I am trying to create a module so that payment information (credit card info, etc) can be stored with the customer so that in the future, customer can just choose the stored profile to be used at payment without the need to retype the credit card info, etc. Before i start, I am just wondering if there is already contributions/modules for this? I have been checking the postings/contributions for the last few months, but did not see somethingl ike this. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the concern. I have been thinking about this also.... however, my view is that, the credit card information is stored into the database with the order currently anyway. Anyone who can break into the database can also break to see those credit cards.... therefore, it should not be higher risk if i create a payment profile for each customer (like address profile) that customer can use to make purchases without retyping everything everytime.

Plus companies like Amazon is doing similar things, which should have proved that customers like it, i guess.

I am going to create a module that will encrpyt the credit card and decrypt it when customer chooses the payment module so that the information can be sent to the gateway for processing. However, I will only show last four digits to customers on the frontend.

regards.

You also may want to check if the payment gateway will store this info for you. I know that LinkPoint and PayFlow Pro have the concept of customer profiles on their servers. At least this would save you the liability of someone potentially stealing the CC numbers from your server.
