Sizing Images

So far everything works great (awesome GPL work!!). My only issue is that images are contstrained to a certain size (for obvious reasons) but this constraint distorts the images. Example: http://dfwmall.com/index.php

Do I need to manually resize all my images or is there another way to get the proper proportions in the image display?

Thx!

Try changing the Image SIze (defaults) in the admin area. Keep in mind you should keep the aspect ratio.. example.. if the regular large image is 200 X 400, then the setting for thumbnail should be 50 X 100, (keeping the aspect ratio).

Hope this helps.

You have some odd sized images there.. :) Tall... when they get resized to thumbnails, they distort. You may want to try one of the big and small image contributions.

Yes, definitely look in the contributions section as there are a couple of very nice thumbnail contributions. Try searching the image section for thumb. Automatic Thumbnail Creator v1.0 is particularly nice.

I was just looking at my bandwidth transfer and just messing around setting up osc I am using 20-30 megs a day!!!! Yikes! and that is only working maybe an hour or 2 a day with 4 items listed to test with. My point is I guess the thumbnail addon is a must or your gonna burn some B baby. Am I correct in where all the bandwith is getting sucked up since pics are never thumbed?

Another thing to remember, is that when setting the image max values in admin, do not elect to have the image size calculated. I have read that that will screw up your images too.

And images are thumb, to some degree anyway by the values you set for your images in admin. If you look in your images folder, you will find, for example image1.jpg, image1_100x80.jpg, image2.jpg, image2_100x80.jpg ... the 100x80 version being your thumbnail.

I don't know if they are true thumbs, or just resized full-size images, I haven't checked the file sizes...but essentially, images are thumbed.

Either you have a leak bud, or someones stealing your bandwidth.

I have 1000 pics on my site, and I am currently spending around 12 hours a day working on it. I have only used 19 Megs in the last 4 days.

Might pay to check those figures with your hosting provider. Doesn;t sound right to me.

You are using one of the thumbnail creation contributions. osC on it's own does not thumbnail images. If He was using low or non compressed large images, then he could easily burn through a decent amount of bandwidth (tho probably not by himself, since his browser should generally be caching the images). But yeah, the thumbnail creator you are using is doing quite a bit in saving you some bandwidth (I'm curious why thumbnail creation isn't an integral part of the shopping cart, tho I figure it's a discussion that's been beat to death already).

Teejay.....I had not installed the thumbnail addon at the time of this post so I think that is where it was using the bandwidth(my images are pretty big is size and res). I just finished adding the auto thumb script so we will see how bandwidth is. I must say this addon rocks and the load time of my site is now just a fraction of what it was. GREAT addon SCRIPT!!!!
