pstrid
Has anyone been able to get OSC to work using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 instead of MySQL? I've been trying to get my install working (have used Preview 1.2 and Milestone 2.2) but i could never connect to the dB in step 2. Realized that OSC needs to use MySQL. My hosting company uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 but I could possible switch plans and get on a UNIX platform that would support MySQL but i'm not as familar with UNIX so i'm a bit wary and i still don't know if MySQL is my only install problem and i don;'t want to pay to switch and then still not get it up and running. So....has anyone been able to port OSC to a Microsoft SQL dB or does anyone know an anticipated date for portability of OSC to other types of dBs? Guest
I am also interested in knowing if anyone has gotten it to work with MS-SQL, we have several servers running on Windows 2003 and SQL 2000. I would hate to have to install mySQL as well. (Our servers are already pretty loaded with memory intensive apps.) Anyone have any experiences they can share? -Alfred
pstrid
I ended up switching to UNIX based server anmd MySQL. I loked around and couldn't find anyone who had success porting it to MS.
wizardsandwars
It would be an very extensive overhaul to get OSCommerce to work with MS SQL Server because all of the db queries are hard coded in using MySQL syntax which is quite a bit different than regular T-SQL, which is what MS SQL Server uses. I believe that the OSC dev team plans on eventually changing all of the queries to reflect syntax based on the DBMS used, but this isn't somethign that will be easily done. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.
