Guest Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 hya I am very new to OS Commerce and PHP so I'd appreciate a plain english explanation if anyone can help me before I scrap the whole thing!! I have set up a shop on my site and am trying to configure it before it goes "live" but am having some major probs. First off I need to change the text on the index page, I have tried following the instructions on the documentation but keep running into the same problem, it won't let me change anything through the admin panel so I have to go into my hosting control panel to do it. (not a prob here tho) Anyway, whenever I change the text, it comes up with an error message Parse error: parse error in /home/alyssia/public_html/shop/includes/languages/english/index.php on line 13 I haven't removed anything but the text I don't want there, anyone any ideas what's causing this please??? Secondly, I'd like to add different postage options, 2 for the UK (standard and next day) and worldwide delivery, where do I do this please?? I have been through all the documentation and can't figure it out at all Can anyone help this damsel in distress?? thanks Alyssia
ozEworks Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 Without knowing what you changed, I guess you have deleted something it needs which is why parsing does not work. Maybe it's a ";" or something like that. Compare your original file with the current one and try to see if you have mucked up something simple like that on line 13 (or line before)
ashlyn Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 All instances of ' within your text must be written like this: \' eg: won\'t can\'t ------------------------------------------------------- I used to be insane, but now I'm just nuts ;)
Noobish-n-stuff Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 ashlyn is right, but that rule also applies for " \"words\"
caribstv Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 I'm the same issue.. If u change the sligtest character in any way, that error comes up. Even is you type if back.. the exact way it was there's an error. Its driving me crazy all morning
OceanRanch Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 Make sure your *NOT* using the osC admin editor. Use your own local server editor or client based editor and FTP the file up if you have to.
Guest Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 ok I "think" I have figured it out Thankfully I hadn't added too much to the original installation, so I deleted it and did a completely new install and am editing it on the server side rather than trying to edit it through the program, so that's sorted that part out. To be on the safe side I am taking it very slowly and just changing one line at a time for the moment. time consuming I know but it seems to be working ok, so that if I make a mistake now, it's really easy to sort out. I also copied and saved the original file just to again be on the safe side. Thanks for the tips tho folks, will certainly keep them in mind. Just have to figure out how to sort the shipping out now (argh!!) guess this is going to take me longer than i thought LOL but what the hey, I'm a perfectionist lol and it has to be just right or not at all hehe. So while i'm here, anyone know how to add 4 different shipping options? I need 2 for the UK, one for Europe and one for the rest of the world. dunno about anyone else but the documentation is doing my head in LOL, way too confusing for someone like me who knows very very little about programming. ho hum Alyssia  <---- me now after sitting here most of today trying to sort this LOL
caribstv Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 B) I did the same thing this few hours ago... line by line
Noobish-n-stuff Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 FYI, never try to edit a php file with any kind of cpanel or file manager. ftp is the only sure way to go. you would be amazed some of the crazy crap a cpanel or file manager can do to a file. don't be suprised if you have to delete white space at the end of your files on a regular basis.
berkedam Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 Alyssia:So while i'm here, anyone know how to add 4 different shipping options? Guest Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 hi there ok I have had a look and yes it might be just what I need but how the heck do I install it????? I used fantastico to install the shop as like I keep saying I have no idea how to program this bloomin thing. I'm getting really frustrated with it now as whenever I try to edit something or add something I get the following error message Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at /home/alyssia/public_html/shop/includes/functions/general.php:1256) in /home/alyssia/public_html/shop/includes/functions/sessions.php on line 67 Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/alyssia/public_html/shop/includes/functions/general.php:1256) in /home/alyssia/public_html/shop/includes/functions/sessions.php on line 67 This is really beginning to get to me now. I really want to use this program for my site shop but at this rate I am so gonna chuck my pc out the window LOL Please can someone explain what is going on and how I fix it IN PLAIN ENGLISH please, it's all very well you explaining the technical terms but for a normal user like myself I don't understand them, so you might as well be speaking double dutch to me lolol. alyssia
happyyo Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 Hi there :) I got exactly the same yesterday...... Check your catalog/includes/language/english/index.php file; At the end of the file, be sure the last line is: ?> There shouldnt be any blank lines after that or any blank spaces after ?>. Hope it helps, It did to me yesterday!! :)
Guest Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 BRILLIANT that sorted it thanks so much for that, lol was tearing my hair out with that one hehehe not to try and sort out the shipping ARGH!!! lol Alyssia x
trendyfashion Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 I can edit thru my cPanel which is Vdeck. I have the html editor turned off of course so it's just straight text. Of course its a pain so I stick with pfe32 editor and ws_ftp....Freeware that Rocks! The Wiki Docs: Read them, live them and be thankful for them!
