Guest Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 Hey people, Is there a way of disabling the right click button, so that people are unable to copy images? Thanks ;)
paulm2003 Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 Even if you can disable the right button (have you tried a hammer already?), any image which you show on the screen can still be copied easyly.
ogee Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 There is a way of presenting picture as a flash presentation which may help you. I dont know if such pictures can be used in the shop though.
Tariq Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 There is also a disable right click contrib... One of these days, I will actually understand what I just changed... But reading the Manual DEFINATELY helps...
ozEworks Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 There is some html around that stops people copying images using the mouse. It is not oscommerce/php related so do a search in the internet. I found it once for another reason. It is a oneliner. Of course this does not stop people copying the whole page to get the image but it takes more work so it stops the lazy amongst us...
TomDSL411 Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 Here a Features to Ddisabling the right click button. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ons,1395/page,8 I hope that help you.
paulm2003 Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 Of course this does not stop people copying the whole page to get the image but it takes more work so it stops the lazy amongst us... It still will be very easy to copy the pictures if someone wants to, it really is a waist of time, you"ll probably only stop some people who the "hack" wasn't ment for anyway. I recently tested such a javascript/mouse protectection someone installed. Downloaded 100 nice pictures in 2min. , of course could have done the other 400 on the site also. Enabled or disabled right mouse really does not make any difference. The only way to make thing difficult is dchockenberry's way I am afraid.
dchockenberry Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 you could also use javascript but it doesnt prevent people from saving pictures in internet explorer if they have that little floating button enabled for pictures. my business involves imaging and photography so if there was a way to eliminate it altogether, I would use it..... I would give you the link to my site but unfortunately I cannot "advertise" in here... I get warnings in my email every time I try to show someone what I have done... I can't even put a banner on my signature even if it doesn't link to my site... The moderators don't allow you to get your name out there... They seem to enjoy having a text-only environment.
ozEworks Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 some links to look at are http://www.webmasters-central.com/t/sitepr...on/images.shtml http://www.wildlifephoto.net/articles/imageprotection.html the second seems pretty informative.
paulm2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 http://www.wildlifephoto.net/articles/imageprotection.html Very intersting indeed especially their final word about it: What's Our Solution? We use Cascading Style Sheets & the IE 6 Image Toolbar META tag on of all our web pages. We add a visible copyright and an invisible watermark to all of our images. In addition to this, we use robots.txt and prevent anyone from hot-linking to our images (check with your hosting service). However, we do not use any special techniques, JavaScripts or programs to protect our images. Why? If someone really wants to take our images, they can. Also, many of the image protection techniques make your web pages inaccessible to people with handicaps. Since the primary goal of our web site is to provide information about photography and wildlife, we choose not to limit the users ability to navigate our site and enjoy our images.
