osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Whats the best way to handle this?

I am doing a site for my wifes new florist retail store (brick and mortar). She is currently set up to accept and process credit cards offline - in person, and with telephone orders.

We do not currently use any online method of accepting credit cards, except via Paypal...but not everybody has a Paypal account. If a customer to your site goes to pay for his purchase, and suddenly finds himself at another site not related in any way to yours (the Paypal site), is asked to create an account and give all sorts of personal information, that is a customer you are very likely to lose.

So obviously, we need a way to accept credit card payments.

The way I WANT to do it, is the customer places his order in the usual manner (I should point out that the shopping cart pages will be secured by ssl), his order and credit card details are, either, sent to us via email (not the safest method, I know) or stored...somewhere for later retrieval by us to process offline just as we would a telephone order.

Can any of the existing gateways within OScommerce be configured to do this? Are there any mods that can allow one to do this? Are there alternate gateway providers anyone recommends?

I am not averse to paying transaction fees, but we cannot afford huge application/set-up fees.

May I ask the forum for its suggestions, please?

Thank you.

The basic credit card option can be set up so that it sends half the credit card number to you by email, and stores the other half to the database. You could then process them offline with a card swiper like you would process an over the phone order..

Just a thought..

OK...that's good...thank you.

But....if you have even just a dozen half-a-credit-card-number transactions stored in the database, are you able to easily identify which half-number belongs with which order? Are they "cross referenced"?

The number is stored with the customer order, so all you would have to do is cross reference the order with the order email you receive (containing the other half of the number). Customer details would be the same, so it should be easy to find..
