Thinking of using osCommerce

I was playing around with the control panel for my website and saw that it offered some scripts for easy instalation. Os Commerce is one of them.

My dad has sold on ebay for over 7yrs. I have wanted to set him up with a website the he could update and manage. I looked at oscommerce and it looks easy enough to handle (add product, update, stuff like that)

I am asking for your opinion of Oscommerce. Can a novice handle the day to day running of this website. I think that I can handle any major problems, if they happen only one in a while. A friend of mine knows php, between the 2 of us we can keep it in good shape, but I do not want to have my friend working on the site all the time.

I guess I am asking is it stable and easy to run

Thank you for your help.

the only way to decide that is personal preference. for a generic setup, you should not have much problem doing anything. one thing to consider is where you put your site, ie the server. make sure that you can get a sql database created and you can get to the different sections of the site. also make sure you are running a fairly recent version of php.

if you are talking about just running the store and no site development, then yes, anybodyy could run the store. the admin panel in OSC is very simple and if you run a generic (unmodified version) of OSC, you have no major problems.

running the store has never been a complaint in any of the forums i ever read, it's the development or mods.

good luck...
