Prevent Spider Sessions??

Ok.

Here's my problem.

Prior to getting my shared SSL configured properly, I didn't have any problem with known spiders creating session id's.

I haven't changed any of my settings. Prevent Known Spiders from starting a session is set to True and everything else in sessions is set to false (I'm told that AOL people can't use an osc powered site if force cookies is set to true)

I am using MS2 which has all of that built in spider stuff. My robots.txt is set to disallow /images/, /admin/, /test/, /cgi-bin/. As it should be.

My .htaccess is set to keep out a number of rude bots that I don't care about. But Google is now creating session IDs AND is able to view my images???

What happened? Why would configuring shared SSL bork up all of my settings?

Anyone know how to fix this?

Help!

Hi Khim,

how many times are you getting the google bot and how have you established they are creating sid's??

As of today when I started counting, I have had over 50 individual sessions from various crawler(#here).google.com and proxy.google.com.

Each of them creates a session. I know they are creating a session id because in Admin I have a contrib that shows this. Before bringing the ssl online, there was nothing under session id for these bots in Admin (I wish I could remember the name of the contrib)

Do you have any idea why this is happening? It just started when I turned on the shared SSL.

Figures, I get everything ironed out, teach myself .htaccess and mod_rewrite and something changes :/

Thanks, Mark.

I'll give spider killer a try. I think way back when I tried installing it but since I was using MS2 I thought I didn't need it.

I will try this.

Thank you so much!

Oh dear:

I installed sid killer, and got no errors. But now when I log in, I can see in admin that I have logged into my customer account, but after a few clicks, it no longer shows me as logged in?

Is this a bug? Or is this what is supposed to happen?

::confused look::

I should have gone to college for programming. If I had known in 1984 that the personal computer was going to be what it is today, I wouldn't have gotten a stupid BA in English :(

::grumble::

Edit:

Also, when I add something to my cart, when I go to checkout - my shopping basket is empty.

When I log in I get the usual redirect to index.php and "Welcome Back, Khim!"... but after I click around a bit (it never logs me out on the shop site), in admin it shows me as being logged in (but no longer clicking around) and another session as me as the guest (clicking around). If I add something to my cart and click on checkout - it tells me there is nothing in my cart.

I've got some kind of duplication here and I followed the instructions to the letter. Are you running MS2? Yes, you already said that. Anyway, since there was additional MS2 code in some of the places Ian's read me said to put his code, I placed his code under the extra MS2 code.

Blah! I just want a store that works - and some sleep (I vaguely remember this luxury:)

I'm just going to put the old application_top.php back and undo the changes. Admin is breaking all over the place.

Mark? If spiders.txt is supposed to keep known spiders from creating a session, then why does it not work?

::boggles::

I do not understand php, programming or the like. However, osc leaves me no choice but to learn it.

Mark,

I went ahead and put the old files back the way they were. Stupid me since I forgot to ask you if you clicked on "Checkout". That is where it was telling me my basket was empty.

BTW, before I changed the files back over, it showed me that a "Guest" with your IP had "The Hunt" in their shopping basket, but the logged in you didn't have anything in your cart. It's like the visitor's cart and the customer cart didn't merge and vise versa.

I don't understand any of this, but I so appreciate your trying to help!

If anyone has been reading through this thread and has an answer to my issues with crawlers showing a session id in Admin (I can't remember the name of the contribution), I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,
