remove shipping information?

Hi, I'm new here, and to osCommerce -

I've looked at the php & the forums here, but can't seem to find the answers:

My site sells only a few software downloads (links in my sig) - there's no CD to ship, no shipping charges to calculate or anything like that, just downloads -

I plan on installing one of the Paypal IPN contributions to work my back-end (already have a business acct with them) so I have several questions:

  • how do I get rid of all shipping instructions and costs and provide "download only" as a shipping method?
  • Which (of the two) Paypal IPN contribs is "better"? (i.e., less buggy, easier to implement, etc.)
  • Is there a way to make purchases "anonymous" (I saw another thread here about it, but haven't found a definite answer yet)
  • Many of the things on my website are free downloads - things like Photoshop actions, brushes, scripts, etc. - how can I make them free downloads without going through a regular "check-out" procedure (in other words, "if blah blah blah is 'free', go to immediate download" - bypassing the checkout screens?) Hopefully, there's a way to use osCommerce as a Download Basket-kind of application, too...?

I apologise if I'm asking questions that have been asked many times, but I can't seem to find the answers - or I'm not searching for the right terms

Many thanks in advance - this looks like a great package and hopefully will fit my needs for streamlining my downloads - - B)

Hi Mike,

* how do I get rid of all shipping instructions and costs and provide "download only" as a shipping method?

If your product is setup as a downloadable product all of the shipping options will automatically be skipped during checkout.

# Which (of the two) Paypal IPN contribs is "better"? (i.e., less buggy, easier to implement, etc.)

No experience on this one, maybe someone else can advise??

# Is there a way to make purchases "anonymous" (I saw another thread here about it, but haven't found a definite answer yet)

There is a contribution that will allow customer to purchase without an account.

With the "purchase without an account" contribution and a product price of 0 this might work for you..

You also could just add a direct html link in the product description that would allow them to download that file from the product description page.

Thanks, Tom -

I think what I'm really looking for is more of a "download basket" of sorts for now - This is my personal site, and I'm only selling a few things to pay the bills for it - although I may add more stuff later.

I need to read through the docs more thoroughly to see how to set up an iten as downloadable only - I didn't see anything on the first (quick) look through -

I guess what I want is similar to what's on the Adobe site for Actions, etc. - a basket to load up all the "downloadables" that are free, and on checkout, a single download of all of them (or multiple downloads with a single click - make sense?)

Also, if anything in their basket has a price, they'll be sent to PayPal to complete the transaction - otherwise, they just download all their stuff and go away happy... ! B)

Right now, every download is 1-by-1, click this - it downloads, click the next, it downloads - etc. - I want an application to streamline the whole process of getting everything to the user.

Is osCommerce the right app to use for something like this, or should I hunt for a basket- type application and keep using Paypal single-item purchase? (Haven't set up IPN yet, but I like the Contrib here, so that might be next in line if osCommerce can do whay I mentioned)

Thanks for your help - hope to get more! ;)

Your correct about each becomes a unique download. You would need to program the modifications to gather all of free cart contents that are downloadable and build a zip file. I don't know of a contrib that does this.

If your into the programming, then osCommerce is the best! Solid infrastructure for you to work with and some great contributions.

Good Luck
