ranger_lp Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 I'm working on a new site and I need to add the tax rate based on county of residence in NYS only. What would be the best way to handle this? I was thinking on adding drop down menus for state/province and changing suburb to county for NYS residents only. There are 57 counties in NYS. I'm up for suggestions...
Guest Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 In doing a quick look around, it appears you will need to add a section in the registration for county or have a lookup table based upon zip code which ties into the county tax rate. either way, looks like fun for you! most states have it, that you charge and pay the sales tax from where you are shipping from, not on where you are shipping to. based upon what you state, do you have to file state sales tax with each and every county? if it were me, i would check with the state tax board.
ranger_lp Posted December 5, 2003 Author Posted December 5, 2003 Tnx for the reply. According to NYS, tax is charged based on shipping address not where the purchase is made. Yes, you are absolutely correct by saying what fun I am going to have to set this up
