Can you change the first/last name + email address to Username, password, email address?

I have allready been able to remove all of the address information from the sign-up process.....after a lot of messing with the process and account details files to remove the un-needed info......(the site has no shipable products so address info is not needed)

I would now like to change it over to a Username / Password system, with unique Usernames so each user can choose a username to enter in the log-on insted of an email address.....

I guess it could be done.....Most things can with PHP.....

Does anyone know how to do this, or know of a contrib' or mod' that will do it?

Any help will be welcomed in developing this in to a possible contrib' for anyone else who would like to drop the address info from the sign-up.

FWIW, I would not want to do this, even for virtual products. The reason is that credit card companies like to collect name and address info to verify that the owner of the card is the one using the card. YMMV.

As far as changing the login system, I would suggest waiting until MS3 is closer to being finalized. Part of the MS3 workboard involves shifting to a class system for logins. You would probably find the mods you want to make easier after the shift as it is intended to make drop in login modules possible. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see a forum integration come out soon after. As you may know, forums already tend to use usernames.

This is not a problem...As the site doesn't use the SSL for CC clearing......It is PayPal driven, and if CC clearing was to be introduced, it would be through a third party so the details are collected on the CC company's website.

MS3 sounds good, if it is able to accept modules in a more "drop-in" way....Although I have made a lot of changes to the basic code, and do not know how this would affect the upgrade process.....

(added in a lot of contrib's......most of which should be part of the basic OSC package in my opion....lol)
