marcus76 Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Hi, I've been doing contrib changes to my store and when things go wrong i roll back by copying the backed up catalog and database folders to the original locations. My question: as for the database, is this a sufficient means of roll-back? i'm concerned the MySQL may load my database in memory and commit the writes to the database at various times thus potentially writing down bad data to a good clean database. This is the quickest way to rollback from a bad contrib (copy a folder) i would prefer not to dump the database everytime - should i be? when the site is eventually hosted i guess it will be a case of performing the dump to reqularly backup the DB. Can anyone also suggest how often this should be done? and general tips on the MySql admin side of things? Many thanks. Marc

marcus76 Posted December 2, 2003 Author Posted December 2, 2003 no i use explorer , i just copy the catalog and database folder to an alternative location - install the contrib. If i dont like the contrib then i rollback by copying the previous catalog and database folders back to original locations. But is this a safe way to restore the database or would the dbase be held in memory and when i role back it could cause issues writing to fields that no longer exist for example? cheers
