Hello to the community,

I am trying to install the oscommerce cart and am not having much success. while I know a good bit about HTML, I have little experience in PHP. I have successfully transferred the catalog folder into my webroot, renamed the Admin folder (which is inside the catalog folder), and have attempted to install the cart.

I have entered my server--'localhost', my user id, my password, and my DB name (same as user id.) i have gone into both configure.php files and have included what i think is the pertinent info. (HTTP_SERVER, DB_SERVER, DB_SERVER_USERNAME, and DB_SERVER_PASSWORD.) Furthermore, I have contacted my host (Fatcow) and have verified that my 'mysql database' is accessible. But, I am having no luck getting any further than this. I am given an error message which reads "Access denied for user: "

Basically I cannot get past step one and feel like a fool. please help....anyone

Thanks.

That error is most likely a result of an error in your configuration values for the database. I would talk to your host and confirm these values. Make sure the username on the database has all permissions.

i had the same problem as you, what you need to do is if u have a control panel to your webspace. because you basiclly have to create a mysql database yourself. i do'nt know if u've already done this. if u haven't and u don't know how, u can call ur provider and ask dem to create a database for u. because at first i thought u could enter anything and i did until i realize it is asking for mysql information. (should be reworded in installation for mysql information) but o well.

i've talked with my host provider. they assure me localhost is the way to go.

as for the mysql database, the userid and password are the same as the ones i use to log in in general, so i don't see how that can affect the installation.

can anyone verify whether or not it makes a difference if you rename your admin folder and whether or not it matters if the renamed admin folder is within the catalog folder.

still tinkering...

Renaming the admin folder is fine as long as its changed in the config files however to make things easy just keep it the standard install i.e. admin then change once you have establised a connection and tested your site.

Are you using myphpadmin to setup your database or has your host done it for you?

Would help if you could post your config file but I suggest once the problem is sorted change your passwords ect.

Just incase have you tried 'root' as the user id so the strigh would be root@localhost when trying to connect not sure if it will help but used this on a windows server. worth a shot.....

local host is the most workable thing

notice that u actrualyl have to create a mysql for every database u want to use. for me itz not even the same as my login, but i create my sql database in my own control panel from my webspace

my host has set up the mysql database for me. i have accessed the db from my host's control panel so I know it is up and accessible. i think i will try the whole process again tomorrow from square one.

thanks for everyone's input. i'll let you all know where i stand tomorrow.
