Does anyone know an easy way to make pictures transparent so they don't have the white box around them? Almost everyone has either a white site or white where the pictures go because of this. Say I wanted my site to be grey, how would I put the pictures onto the site so they don't look horrible?

Thanks!

You would change all of the images to have a transparent background insteadof a white one.

If you are serious about doing image work get adobe photoshop. It is hands down the best software on the market for designers. It is rather expensive though.

Jasc Printshop does a lot of what photoshop does and I believe they still offer 30-day trial downloads.

There are probably a lot of other packages out there that will allow you to create transparent .gif files. Take a look on some of the download sites and you should be able to find something.

Another option would be to add a border to all of your images. That can work very well. You can even do this atuomatically through the tep_image function.

Jasc's program is called PaintShop

and you're correct about Photoshop, but for something like this, you'd be safe purchasing Adobe Elements, which is much much cheaper

Thanks for all the responses, so would this work for pictures I already have in GIF Format? Or do I have to make it transparent before I convert it to Gif?

Thanks again!

Gif is the only accepted web format that supports transparent backgrounds. What you need to do is load your gif images into a program and change them to have a transparent background. Besides the programs mentioned, there are several free programs that will allow you to do this. The Gimp is one. Although the learning curve on it can be quite steep, depending on your level of experience. Another program is Photo Plus. It is very easy to use and all you need to do to convert your images is load them and then save them with a transparent background.
