Upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2

I have a cart running 2.1 and I tried to go through and take the dob field out of all of the php pages and the database. Now the cart has errors because I missed one somewhere. If I was to do an upgrade to the 2.2 (just ftp'n the new pages over the old ones and following the upgrade) would this overright my already existing products to where I would have to re-enter everthing all over again.

 

If it overrights the database to where it deletes my products and specs and all of that other interesting good stuff, is there a way to save everything on the admin side so I dont have to go through and re-enter everything all over again.(products,email addy, addresses, all of my already registered customers, etc.)

Anyone Please Help! I guess I asked a simple question in a hard way. If I upgrade will it delete my products in the old database. Im just trying to avoid having to put everything in the cart again.

Why, didn't you just turn the DOB off in admin????
