Llamma123 Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 Proposal- Make a plugin package that seamlessly integrates to both USPS shipping and UPS or Fedex. We are a fairly new business and have been growing by leaps and bounds. This presents many "good to have" problems. The PayPal shopping cart we have been using no longer meets our needs and it is time to upgrade to a real solution. With a small staff of 2 we want to make our shipping as streamlined as possible. We currently use UPS Worldship for all packages in the United States. We manually ship our international package USPS twice a week. Our ideal solution will allow us to input our stock and deduct from stock as sales are made. Each morning we would like to be able to go into the system and print all packing slips from the previous day (in one shot not having to touch each individual one, bring it up on screen then print, just print them all). Then print all the UPS shipping labels on one of our eltron 2442 printers. We are currently seeking out a business class solution for USPS shipping as well and would like to find a method that can use a similar thermal label printer. And again just print them all in one shot. All the information is there address weight etc and all this cut and paste is driving us nutz! The ideal shipping solution: 1 using date from shopping cart print all packing slips for the day regardless of shipping carrier 2 connect to two seperate shipping carriers and generate shipping lables en mass without user intervention 3 when shipping labels are generated confirmation emails and shopping cart history is updated with the tracking number. Can this be done? Has it already been done?

According to the very small amount of research I've done on the subject it is possible, and Fedex seems to talk about it at http://www.fedex.com/us/solutions/wis/index.html/ I'm not entirely sure this is what we're looking for, exactly, and even if it is it seems like it requires custom coding (not much of a coder myself). I have seen a great story of a bike shop in Texas that went through this process and how wonderful things have been for them since, but I can't find it right now. You'd need to write it yourself or get it written - and don't forget to add it back as a Contribution :-) Sounds good tho, and it's great your having success using OSC too! Thanks.
lonnyl69 Posted December 6, 2003 Posted December 6, 2003 And an accounting solution! I would be great to see an addon for a backoffice for running accounting through the system. I have sales people on the road, it would be great for them to ring up a sale right at a customers home/business and not have to re-enter it again in shop. Also could see a great use for hidden or salesperson only items that could be entered right at an invoice screeen. This package has the potential to become an all in one solution for invoicing, accounting --- the works.

That is the sprit of the Internet in my mind information should be free. With that line of thinking I have created a web page dedicated to repairing game consoles, the site includes in-depth tutorials detailing steps to take to repair. I have started another web page to be guide for new online companies, with everything from how to host a web page, structure for page rank in search engines, install a message board, enable SSL, register to accept credit card transactions, file papers of incorporation, get packing supplies etc. The site is targeted to be "one way to do it", although there are many hosting providers, shopping carts, bulletin boards, we will select one of each and put together a best practice guideline, step by step how to. The last piece in this puzzle is a shopping cart solution that automates much of the work. I believe to have a true accounting solution it is just a matter of having OSC easily tie into a suite like QuickBooks. Attempting to bring all the features of an accounting solution into a shopping cart is an admirable goal but a bit beyond what I would like to accomplish in the first phase of this project. Overall goals for the project- Reduce mindless repetitive tasks to a minimum (No more cut and paste) Reduce customer service emails; provide answers to the common questions within the users account in the shopping cart (order status, link to tracking number status at shippers site etc) Accounting export in CSV (sales for month,) Lets work together to use this thread to define the specific requirments. I would like to get input from the community before we start go get developers involved.
Goanna Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 I would love to be able to print shipping labels, both international and domestic, right from the admin. I have accuonts with Airborne, UPS, USPS, DHL, and FedEx. I use different couriers for different items. It is a pain to have to go from site to site and having to print out labels at each one while going back and forth to the OSC admin to copy all the info. If shipping/return labels could be printed right from the admin, that would be awesome. Also, maybe a password system built into the admin itself. My webhost doesnt use apache so I cannot use an .htaccess file correctly. If a password was added directly to the admin (just like how a php based forum) that would make things much more secure for people like me who arent running on an apache server.

jello1 Posted December 21, 2003 Posted December 21, 2003 Well the UPS world ship method does work... we ship 700 orders a day... we use worldship. you just have to set up worldship to read your db. all we do is input the order number and weight and it's done. we also use the order number for the tracking number. and we use the quant. view notify ...it emails every use when the package ships. they track it with there order number... we used to cut and paste.... but as you know.... arrgh... if you need some help setting it up email or pm me... or if you need more info.... once you map the fields it's a breeze.... <span style='font-family:Courier'>If you can't fix it Perl it!!!...</span> ******************************

Just want to click one link thath open window with all the ship addresses for the orders "In process" then print the page in the labels sheet and done. I'll try to do it by my self, if i can i'll upload the contribution...
