Duster
I've installed osc before and gotten somewhat familiar with it though I now have some questions whose answers I haven't found. I have a client who is a wholesaler. Can osc show products to anyone (without pricing) yet limit purchases and pricing information only to their dealers? If so, how? I know osc keeps track of inventory in stock. Can it do this: Say there are 6 of an item in stock and a dealer orders 10. Can osc notify the client that they need to order at least 4 more of that item? Furthermore, does it have a reordering point such as when there are only 10 of a particular item left in stock, order 25 more? Your consideration and help will be much appreciated. instamatic
I have a client who is a wholesaler. Yes, there is a contribution for setting up groups and associated prices. Say there are 6 of an item in stock and a dealer orders 10. Can osc notify the client that they need to order at least 4 more of that item? I think so, isn't it the same as extra order e-mails? Furthermore, does it have a reordering point such as when there are only 10 of a particular item left in stock, order 25 more? Don't know about reordering, i would assume reporting would handle that. ashlyn
There is also a contribution named "catalog anywhere" which will give you a full list of all your products (in no particular order and not in categories), without prices, and on a page anywhere you want it. I have used this on a wholesale site, as a sample cart, along with another contribution which allows people to sign up but won't let them into the cart until you approve them. I set it so that after signup, the continue button takes them to that catalog anywhere page instead. Had to make up a signup page out of the cart folder though, and it doesn't contain anything other than the signup form. ------------------------------------------------------- I used to be insane, but now I'm just nuts ;)

paulm2003
I assume that the google bot does not have the whole day to spider your site. So you have to create a site that is easy and fast to spider. That would mean a fast loading site, quick access to your product description pages. And, I am not sure about this last one, h1's to point to relevant information could help. One other problem might be that most osC sites are very much alike, because it is difficult to change it. The google search is smart and it probably won't give any extra ranking points to sites which are copied all over the www place. Of course I could be wrong, but my (non osC) sites rankings tell me that I am right :D .
thejudge
I have a client who is a wholesaler. Yes, there is a contribution for setting up groups and associated prices. Hi I saw this, and wondered which contribution it was you would surgest to use so osc shows the products to anyone but only pricing could be shown to registered users, as I have to build a site for a wholesaler. Is it possible to verify to stop people from making there accounts themselves as the site is only for geniune traders not public? Also which is the best contribution for quantity based discounts. Below is an example of what i require. CODE PRODUCT BOXED IN 1+ 5+ 20+ 102200 True 320 Watt Slient Twin Fan PSU 10 ?37.00 ?35.00 ?34.00 102201 True 520 Watt Slient Triple Fan PSU 10 ?82.00 ?81.00 ?79.00 102205 Blue Acrylic 520 Watt Slient PSU 10 ?89.00 ?86.00 ?84.00 With the pricing of the products being like this and the fast changes in stock would Easy Populate be the best option and does it support the tiered pricing as shown above? I also have to sort out the delivery. There want to go for ?8.95+Vat upto 50kgs and 30p/kg there after. Also a COD charge of ?7, if that delivery method is chosen. Which contribution if any would you recommend? Is there a way of changing the layout of OsCommerce using Dreamweaver or Frontpage? Please help as i would like to stick with OsC Cheers People! Pharkie
Is there a way of changing the layout of OsCommerce using Dreamweaver or Frontpage? I use Dreamweaver MX and created www.absolutepearls.co.uk with it - it's only difficult if you're not experienced in PHP and Dreamweaver/HTML :) So with some skill in those things, you can achieve any layout and design you want. Some things easier than others, but all possible, particularly making use of the extensive MODs available. It sounds like you need a price-break mod, the group-pricing mod, some shipping mods to sort out your weight issue (OSC ships in-built with very comprehensive shipping options based on weight, quantity and location from/to anyway). If you don't want people making accounts for themselves, I think your best option is to add a .htaccess on create_account.php. i.e. It pops up the standard 'enter user/pass to see this page'. That way you could say to your known customers 'Here's the user/pass to go in an make yourself an account'. Anyway one else wouldn't be able to access the page. After that, users can login as normal without remembering the .htaccess pass - they just use the store as normal - but it stops unauth people from making an account in the first place. You can also keep an eye on who has an account from the admin to ensure its working properly.
thejudge
Thanks for the quick reply. Which group-pricing contribution, and shipping contribution would you recommend?
jrwrestling
Andrew, I generally look for the ones that have the most discussion, since you can get the most feedback and improvements.
