Guest Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 Hi All, I have 2 oscommerce sites at present: http://www.sportsjamkits.com I have had this a while now, but this is the first time I have been to the 'community'. Having read through various forums of the site, I am amazed how little I know about anything to do with oscommerce! My new site is: [edited] If you could give some feedback on this site (or the other), I would be really grateful. Any marketing tips would be great. Best regards, Jamie.
mikes Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 Pretty much out of the box install. :( One of my pet peeves is a 'click to enter' page. Maybe it doesn't bother anyone else but it drives me crasy. Also, I've never understood the need for 'polls' or 'quote of the day' on websites. It uses up valuable space and serves no useful purpose, for me at least.
♥kymation Posted November 22, 2003 Posted November 22, 2003 I agree with mikes on the splash page. No, they won't read it. Unless you are running an Adults Only site there is absolutely no reason for this. You have just added a barrier to keep customers out of your store. Your logo blends in so well that I almost missed it. I would make it stand out more. The front page is way too busy. There are so many boxes that I don't know where to look. You would do well to concentrate on making your site as clean and easy to navigate as possible. Some of your product pictures look distorted. I would crop them in an image editing program so that they are all the same size. You could also remove the width setting in the Admin panel, which allows osC to resize them without distortion. Products marked with *** dont exist in desired quantity in our stock. Should be don't. You need to write this as don\'t in the code. I like your buttons - nice clean design. On the Create Account page, required is in pale blue on a slightly lighter blue background. Is this an eye exam? If so, I flunked. And do you really need all that information to process an order? It doesn't matter whether those boxes are required or not. The more complex this page appears to be, the more customers you will scare off. Trust me on this one. I would not show prices as 0 even if the product is not available. If I am at all interested in it I want to know what it will cost. You have a good start here, just needs a bit more work.
