premmala
I've been watching several threads about website positioning, web spiders and robots and decided to post this idea. However, before packaging it up into a contribution, I want to get some feedback. I am using osCommerce 2.2MS2 with some of my own customizations. I like to use eBay auctions as a gateway to our website. I wanted a way to automate the generation of auction pages. I adapted the buggy print_catalog contribution by Kim Elliott to meet my needs. I changed the names of the files to preview, but do not have a link to it on my website. I run it directly from the URL. As it displays the product listing, it also generates separate html files for each product and creates an index page at the same time. The index page links refer to the generated html pages which then ultimately lead to the catalog pages. Please view (a.) http://jewelsbymala.com and (b.) http://jewelsbymala.com/preview/index.html and (c.) one of the items from (b.) before responding to the following questions. A good example of (c.) would be http://jewelsbymala.com/preview/PB070350.html. 1.) Which page should I submit to google, et. al. - (a.) or (b.) considering only positioning. Obviously, (a.) has a better user appeal, but (b.) has more spider appeal. 2.) I would appreciate any feedback about the website (a.), preview page (b.) and the generated product item pages (c.). 3.) Is this technique useful to anyone else? If I get enough requests, I'll try to make it into a contribution. Thanks for your time. Jerome Freedman, Ph. D. wizardsandwars
I'm in a simialar situation, having recently come to realize that using ebay to bring traffic to your site is a whole lot less expensie than paying for advertising. I'll probably be doning something very similar soon, and would be interested in starting with your code. To answer your questions..... 1.) Which page should I submit to google, et. al. - (a.) or (b.) considering only positioning. Obviously, (a.) has a better user appeal, but (b.) has more spider appeal. I do not think that b. has more spider appeal. What makes you think that it would be? Personally, I would submit whatever site you would like web customers to enter by. 2.) I would appreciate any feedback about the website (a.), preview page (b.) and the generated product item pages (c.). I really like the simplicity of your main page, and the heder and header navigation is top rate, in my opinion. I care for the rest of the site, including theproduct information pages less so. I particularly don't like that you use the standard OSC buttons and images for the various functionality. 3.) Is this technique useful to anyone else? If I get enough requests, I'll try to make it into a contribution. I would be useful to me. Although it only takes 5 minutes or so to make an auction for a prodcut formatted nicely, overtime, those 5 minutes per can add up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.
