Creating customer account

I have been trying to set up a cart system for my wife's web site I downloaded and installed the current version of Os commerce, followed the instructions, and now when I tryed to test it I went to set up an account to purchase something and it come up to a 404 page not found what am I doing wrong?

I do not know what the data base varibles are I am pretty new at this.

They have an older version and I inadvertantly deleted the Os files that were there. I did talk to the tech support and they assured me that I could indeed upload and install a new version in my public_html directory> I also did load a copy in the .pannel/web/ecommerce/os directory but it is not accessable from their control pannel.
