Sounds like a perfect way to accomplish this task. However as I do not know very much about MySQL databases this raises a few questions:

1) In PHPMyAdmin it seems as if I can only export data. I guess some kind of sql-command is needed to import the modified file ?

2) Can I insert new customers without giving them a password ?

3) Are there any other databases where I could loose integration by just exporting / importing table "customers"?

Thanks for your help.

This will do what you want perfectly

All you have to do is to exports the data asa csv file, open it in excel, selct all records (Not all columns and rows just those that are filled with data

Then open twang and ceate the sql script then copy and paste it into phpmyadmin - its costs about ?20.00 but saves loads of time and problems trust me!
