Installation directory

Is there an easy way to change the install directory, once osCommerce has already been installed and setup? For instance, if the site is currently at http://www.mydomain.com/catalog, is it easy to move everything to http://www.mydomain.com/ ?

Also, is there any reason I shouldn't install it in the root directory of my webserver? (ie. http://www.mydomain.com)

Thanks,

Actually you should install it in the root, then you just need to change both of your includes/configure.php files to reflect the changes. If you have any mod that you have installed that require defining your site, they will need to be changed to reflect the new path IE: your domain.com instead of yourdomain.com/catalog.

I have my live store in the root and my in progress store in catalog that way I can still edit online while my other store is running

Great idea chfields! So, how do you go about moving your in-progress store over to the production store once you are satisfied with the changes? I assume you just use one database, and modify images/layout, and then just move the files when you are ready, correct?

Thanks,

A lot of times, one's in progress store only differs by a couple files, so you can just copy them over. I would put the in progress store on a separate database. That way if you do something that messes up the DB, it messes up a test DB rather than your production DB. You can back up the production DB and restore it to the test store if you want to work with real data.
