Language support: Unicode (UTF-8)?

Recommended Posts

I need to set up a shopping cart system for a client, and one of the requirements is that the system be able to support multiple languages using UTF-8. At the moment, we are likely to need to support multiple European languages and Japanese. Additional languages are possible in the future. We would prefer to do this using a single character set. More importantly, we need to be able to integrate with some other databases that are already using UTF-8, and we don't want to have to produce and depend on ETL scripts that do character set conversion.

Thus, a few questions:

Can I set up osCommerce to use UTF-8 throughout the system?

Has anyone done this before?

If so, how difficult is it, and how well does it work?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

OK, I have a nice working oscommerce site with greek and english language.

The greek language files are in Unicode, the web browser recognizes them

and displays them correctly, but ... when a user creates an account and uses

the greek language to fill out the forms, his details do not appear in Unicode,

but in an unknown signs-language. Well, changing the encoding of the browser

solves the mystery, the account details were displayed using an ISO encoding

and not the UTF encoding .... I think!. Of course by changing the encoding used

by the web browser, I could see the account details, but not the texts of the site,

which now appered in another nice, signs-language!

Is it possible to also display the account details in Unicode??

Thanx in advance!
