SID Killer

Quick question:

What does SID stand for and why might I need SID Killer?

How can I tell if my version of osC needs it or not?

Thanks in advance.

Session IDenification. SID Killer is for Search engine spiders that crawl your site for indexing. If the url includes a SID (like OSC does) then it will sometime spider the same thing over and over (cause of new SID is issued everytime it visits). This could causes Carts to be added on your "dead" list and the spider to cause download bandwith to be used up.

Basic SID killer is included in MS1 and newer. If you have 2.1 or 2.2CVS that is a pre MS1 (back in May 2003? or older) then there is a separate SID killer you can add for the contributions.

Many sites just use ROBOTS.TXT and blocked most of there OSC site form being index - which is not a good idea if you want people to find you or your products.
