I need help with price variation per options.

I have products that have multiple options with a diferent price for each option. I was using the lowest price in the "Product Edit Page" and then adding the price difference for each option, in the " Product attributes". That works fine and totals out ok when people add to cart and check out.

But i was wondering if there is a way to show the customers the total of the product with the options they want when they select it, with out showing the lower/wrong price at the top of the page. I hope this makes sense.

I just think it's confusing for instance: if a customer sees $149.00 athe top of the product page and then sees (+ $240.00) in the options drop-down, i think it's confusing for them. They need to see the total amount.

I thought maybe i could leave the "product page" price blank and add the total price of the product with options in the options drop-down, but it puts $0.00 at the top of the product page which is no good.

Hi Barrett,

I'm having the same exact problem. The product options/attibutes price calculation is very confusing. I'm trying to have a base price for a "bag" of an item and also a "case" price for the same item as an option. I have $18.90 as the price of the bag but I have to put in (+61.60) as the options attribute price for the case, which really equals $80.50.

I would like to show the "actual" price of the case $80.50 in the drop down for the option/product attribute. At the top of the page would be nice too.

If you find the answer please post it! I will do the same.

I've been thinking about this too, but haven't had time to work it out precisely. The drop down menu display is scripted at line 139 in product_info.php. The price is stored in the products table in products_price, and the products_attributes table has the two needed fields options_values_price and price_prefix. It is just a matter of the code to call these three entries for the current product and attribute, and do the math before displaying the result. I hadn't noticed that contrib before, does it display the price in the drop down list before the option is selected, or just on the main page after? Jeremy

Hi Matt,

Your code above. Does this fix the plus minus problem for example: "+ 23.99"? Also does this code change show the customer the an accurate final price before proceeding?

Assuming the base price is 10 and the option value price is 5, that code will display the total price of 15 in the drop down. It does nothing with the base price displayed in the right hand corner.

would be the correct code. I don't see how this would cause your error though. The error that you are getting would be more likely caused by a misspelling, where one of the variables was missing its $ or had an extraneous space in the middle.

BTW: I did get the code submitted by Matt to work. I did have extraneous "invisble" spaces in my code. Although the code does give me the accuarate price in the drop down field, it also changes the product price to $0.00 everywhere else, which is another problem.

In the fourth step you have listed in your previous email did you only add the last line. The line that goes as follows

"$nuPrice = str_replace(",", "", $nuPrice); ### Add this line!"

I found this step to be a little confusing.

yes ive done it that way, ive done this over and over and over at least 10 x and each time, the products_info.php pages come up blank and in the view code, all it shows is:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

also: this is what i adjust to product_info.php and then it no longer functions after that:

Search for:

$products_price = '<s>' . $currencies->display_price($product_info['products_price'],

Add the following line afterwards:

$nuPrice = $currencies->display_price($new_price, tep_get_tax_rate($product_info_values['products_tax_class_id']));

Hi Tracie,

When you add your new code do you cut and paste the code? If you do have you looked for invisible characters that may be causing your problem?

I had invisible characters and at first and my code would not work, although I did get an error.
