Need help with Installation

I'm trying to install OS Commerce, but after I hit "continue" on step 6, I get this message:

A test connection made to the database was NOT successful.

The error message returned is:

Access denied for user: 'angela@localhost' (Using password: YES)

Please click on the Back button below to review your database server settings.

If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company.

I talked with my hosting company, and they said I was doing everything correct. Can anyone help me? I'm excited to get my store up and running, but I've been stuck at this step for a long time! Thanks!

You will probably find that your username has a prefix - eg. osc_angela - This is how mine is using cPanel... I can choose 'matti', but it will always append a prefix to it.

Thanks, but I have tried that as well. I posted this in another thread, but here again is my settings:

I have my configure.php files(s) set to 777.

I have my username, password, db name etc entered into those files.

HEre is a look:

  define('HTTP_SERVER', 'localhost'); // eg, http://localhost or - https://localhost should not be NULL for productive servers

  define('HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER', '');

  define('HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER', '');

  define('ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG', 'false'); // secure webserver for catalog module

  define('DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT', $DOCUMENT_ROOT); // where your pages are located on the server. if $DOCUMENT_ROOT doesnt suit you, replace with your local path. (eg, /usr/local/apache/htdocs)

  define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/admin/');

  define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT . DIR_WS_ADMIN);

  define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/catalog/');

  define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT . DIR_WS_CATALOG);

  define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'images/');

  define('DIR_WS_ICONS', DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'icons/');

  define('DIR_WS_CATALOG_IMAGES', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'images/');

  define('DIR_WS_INCLUDES', 'includes/');

  define('DIR_WS_BOXES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'boxes/');

  define('DIR_WS_FUNCTIONS', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'functions/');

  define('DIR_WS_CLASSES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'classes/');

  define('DIR_WS_MODULES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'modules/');

  define('DIR_WS_LANGUAGES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'languages/');

  define('DIR_WS_CATALOG_LANGUAGES', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'includes/languages/');

  define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_LANGUAGES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'includes/languages/');

  define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_IMAGES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'images/');

  define('DIR_FS_CATALOG_MODULES', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'includes/modules/');

  define('DIR_FS_BACKUP', DIR_FS_ADMIN . 'backups/');

// define our database connection

  define('DB_SERVER', 'localhost');

  define('DB_SERVER_USERNAME', 'interior_oscommerce');

  define('DB_SERVER_PASSWORD', '*******');

  define('DB_DATABASE', 'interior_oscommerce');

  define('USE_PCONNECT', 'false');

  define('STORE_SESSIONS', 'mysql');

?>

Regardless of these things, I am still getting this error message:

A test connection made to the database was NOT successful.

The error message returned is:

Access denied for user: 'interior_oscommerce@localhost' (Using password: YES)

Please click on the Back button below to review your database server settings.

If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company.

Do you think it is because I am installing this over the net and not on my home pc?

It seems a little weird to me that your DB username and DB name are the same. If you're on shared hosting I would have though that your username would be something like interior.

Maybe i'm wrong, and it is possible to have it set up that way, but the username is the first thing i'd check.

I thought about that as well, and to comesate for any possible errors, I changed it to admin, it is now "interior_admin" with the prefix.

I made the updates in the configure.php files, and still I am not having any better fortune.

iukini here...i too am encountering the exact same issue.

new install, new host, starting from absolute scratch.

i have read this thread, but no append info helps.

i have cpanel, where site_dbname and site_dbuser info shows in mysql account maintenance area.

when i match above info correctly during install, still fails with same errors encountered herein.

i can myphpadmin the db ok. at the top of this it says:

Database site_dbname running on localhost

i have tried:

site_dbname and site_username

dbname and username

local host, IP and even DNS info

all fail.

cpanel says following info on host:

==========

Operating system Linux

Service Status Click to View

Kernel version 2.4.20-20.7smp

Apache version 1.3.28 (Unix)

PERL version 5.6.1

Path to PERL /usr/bin/perl

Path to sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail

Installed Perl Modules Click to View

PHP version 4.3.3

MySQL version 4.0.15-standard

cPanel Build 8.4.0-RELEASE 91

Theme cPanel X v2.2.4

Documentation Click to View

========

any other directions or instructions would be most appreciated.

many, many thanks in advance.

best wishes.

iukini
