force cookies, no session id in url

Recommended Posts

osC has these session settings:

Force Cookie Use

Check SSL Session ID

Check User Agent

Check IP Address

Prevent Spider Sessions

Recreate Session

the configure.php has this code:

define('HTTP_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'http://magicplanet.org');
define('HTTPS_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'https://magicplanet.org');
define('HTTP_COOKIE_PATH', '/catalog/');
define('HTTPS_COOKIE_PATH', '/catalog/');

Symptoms when "forced cookies" is on: In Netscape with cookies enabled, I keep getting cookie_usage.php page when entering session. In IE with cookies enabled, i add a product to the cart and I get an empty cart.

Question, how do I use these settings in admin and configure.php to make cookies work and eliminate the session ID in the URL? Is there another way to eliminate the session ID in the URL?

you are raising a very good issue. Maybe I am way off, but it seems to me that some browsers just dont like some of the setting combinations that are possible. I dont think it was tested enough.

One thing that would help is the addition of a way to track whats going on when things go wacky so we can measure what browsers dont work, etc etc. The logging mechanism doesnt seem to really allow us to focus on that sort of detail. So I make random changes to the settings and hope that will improve things.
