Can anyone tell me (as a USER) not a programmer, how to delete this passage on my OS home page that was installed by my host server?????

"This is a demonstration online-shop, any products purchased will not be delivered nor billed. Any information seen on these products are to be treated fictional.

If you wish to download this sample shop, or to contribute to this project, please visit the support site. This shop is based on osCommerce 2.2-CVS."

Just looking for an answer like: "Our program does NOT have a button you can push, you have to edit these files in these directories. Change xxxxxx to zzzzz"

YOUR help will be appreciated.

Actually yes it does. It called FILE MANAGER in your Admin. Which allow online editing of text (and PHP) files. Or you can FTP the files down and them make changes and re-FTP them back up....

MOST displayed TEXT is LANGUAGE specific is delcared in your \includes\launguages\<lauguagefile>.php and sometimes in PHP files in the directory of \includes\launguages\<lauguage>\

Buttons and Images that contain text is in \includes\launguages\<lauguage>\images\buttons\

And for some installed modules you will have to modify files in \includes\launguage\<lauguage>\modules\

Now that I said all that the file you want to change is:

\includes\launguage\english\index.php

line # 13:

define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes, <b>any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed</b>. Any information seen on these products is to be treated as fictional.<br><br><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="2"><tr><td class="main" valign="top">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'default/1.gif') . '</td><td class="main" valign="top"><b>Error Messages</b><br><br>If there are any error or warning messages shown above, please correct them first before proceeding.<br><br>Error messages are displayed at the very top of the page with a complete <span class="messageStackError">background</span> color.<br><br>Several checks are performed to ensure a healthy setup of your online store - these checks can be disabled by editing the appropriate parameters at the bottom of the includes/application_top.php file.</td></tr><td class="main" valign="top">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'default/2.gif') . '</td><td class="main" valign="top"><b>Editing Page Texts</b><br><br>The text shown here can be modified in the following file, on each language basis:<br><br><nobr class="messageStackSuccess">[path to catalog]/includes/languages/' . $language . '</td><td class="main" valign="top"><b>Securing The Administration Tool</b><br><br>It is important to secure the Administration Tool as there is currently no security implementation available.</td></tr><tr><td class="main" valign="top">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . This shop is running on osCommerce version <font color="#f0000"><b>' . PROJECT_VERSION . '</b></font>.');

AND IF THAT IS GREEK TO YOU then may I suggest you DOWNLOAD the free "SEC" from www.webmakersconner.com (which has all the MS2 files)

WHICH HAS A HTML WYSIWYG editor for "MAINPAGE" and also product descriptions - PLUS many other great MODS - most of which can be turned on/off from with the ADMIN.

OR if you want you can install the MOD your self to your existing shop - Look in the CONTRIBUTUION section in the Downloads...

Good Luck

Thank you!

I would NEVER have guessed to look in that file. BTW It is /default.php not index.php

In MS2 it is index.php, in MS1 and earlier, it is default.php

All the text on any page can either be changed in includes/languages/english.php or includes/languages/english/pagename.php, where pagename is the name if the particular page you want to change.

It is worth while having a good look through the language files as there are all sorts of things you can change. Basically you can change ANYTHING provided you know where to look and what to change ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Jason, I looked at line#13 code in a text editor and it wouldn't show it all and another text editor shows it all but won't let me select the whole line much less make changes in all the text. Some of the text can be changed and some can't. Has open source got some of the text that has to be shown?
