Specific Sales Process - how do I do this??

Hi All,

Here's an interesting scenario for all you logical thinkers of osCom to get your heads around. I have thought about it, but am not knwledgeable enough to discern the best way to do what I want using osC... here's what I want to be able to do...

I am setting up an osCom site for a friend of mine and he will simply be selling garments with specific images on them. Each type of garment (5 different types in total) will be available in a range of sizes with one of 6 images on it. Nothing too difficult I hear you say, but.... which is the best way to present this to a customer?

Do I put my osCom site products as the garment or as the image that is to be printed on the garment? or do I have to get photographs of each of the garments with each of the images on them and use these as products on the site?

If I say put photographs of the garments as the main choice in the catalogue, how then, if a customer can choose 1 of 6 images to have printed on that garment - do I show the images they can choose from? I appreciate I can have them in a pull down list (as is the case with size selection), but I'm sure you'll all agree that it would be much better if I were able to have the images "shown" rather than presented as a pull down text list.

So, the sales process is...

  • -> Customer chooses garment from pictures of 5 garments on main page

-> customer chooses which image they want printed on their chosen garment (how/from what?)

-> customer chooses size from pull down list as normal osCom

-> customer proceeds through rest of order as normal osCom

So, hope I have made my dillema clear - can anyone advise as to the best way to achieve this (if it is possible) using osCommerce.

Many thanks

John

I think I get your idea, but correct me if im off target.

The best way would be to have garments listed 1-5 then set attributes for each item allowing size selection and new design change options also, set this up in the products attributes in admin.

Setup the products first which are the first five shirts, in atributes you then setup for each product as above. k :D

Need any further help let me now, I will help as much as possible.

Or I may be way off target if so forget the post k. :(

You could set up each image as a product and then set up the sizes and garments as options.

Or you could set up each garment as a product and then set up the sizes and images as options.

Either way would work, but personally I would go for the latter.

You can use html in the product descriptions so you could create a graphic showing each image and the titel of the image so that the customer know what it looks like. The you can insert it into the product description using html. There is a contribution where you can set up images per attribute but mine is the cheat's way out.

See here for example.

Here's another possible way to do this: set up your images as categories and your garments as products in each category. Put an picture of each garment with the image printed on it in the product description. This would also let you select only those garments that would be appropriate for each image, in case there are restrictions on what could be printed on different garments.

I may be way off here, but I can see myself shopping this way.

Jim
