I'm in the US, how to handle international orders?

I have UPS as the standard shipper on my store. But for international, I ship by USPS.

 

Is there a way to have USPS show up when the person is not in the United States?

 

Second, my Credit Card address verification fails on international credit cards. How do others handle this?

AVS is not available outside the US.

 

It's just a matter of being careful when you get an overseas order.

 

There are some possibilities:

-don?t ship to high fraud areas

-insist that the customer pays from another up-front means (paypall/bank transfer)

-Don't ship suspicious orders (5 of the same item or well above average purchase amounts)

How is paypal better than using your merchant account?

From what I've heard paypal is much worse.

I'm in australia, so i have limited knowledge on paypal. Maybe it's doesn't do what i though, but the point i was making is if you're suspicious of an order insist that the customer pay in a more direct way, such as bank transfer.
