Importing - uploading information in Japanese

Has anyone found a way of importing or uploading information in Japanese.

 

Using text files does not work, even when they are encoded in Japanese (using myPHPAdmin)

 

Tried ODBC using the mySQL ODBC driver.

 

Both just convert the Japanese characters to "??"

 

I have been hunting around various forums without luck.

 

We have no problems with manually entering items into the OSCommerce system, but we have too many products to re-enter the information again.
