MadhatterWales Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 Hi All! We've installed got OSCommerce on our server (http://shop.ffoc.co.uk) and plan to go live real soon to sell merchandise and products for our club! But we plan to sell membership to our club through the shop as well. Once the purchase has been completed, I would like to direct the person to a page on our website which contains a form which they need to complete so that we can get all their details! Problem is - how can I do this re-direct feature?? any ideas?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Craig
Guest Posted September 5, 2003 Posted September 5, 2003 Couldn't you use the details from their account?
MadhatterWales Posted September 6, 2003 Author Posted September 6, 2003 Unfortunately there's not enough data on there. I don't really want to add extra fields either, as some people who buy from our shop won't actually become members. Would the download feature possibly work?
Guest Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Well, that was what I thought of first. You could make a PDF of your form, have them download it and then post it to you. But I thought you wanted an on-line form.
MadhatterWales Posted September 6, 2003 Author Posted September 6, 2003 What i thought was that isntead of the download link being a file, it would simply direct them to the page http://www.ffoc.co.uk/resultY.html. Thanx for you help, it is appreciated! :) Craig
Guest Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 Hmm - it might work. Instead of putting filename.pdf you could put the link. You would need to change the text though so it doesn't say "download your files here" You would just have to try it and see. It can't hurt I suppose.
MadhatterWales Posted September 6, 2003 Author Posted September 6, 2003 Now I'm going to be a pain - how the hell do you get the download feature to work - I've had a look on the forum but can't raelly find much on it ??
Guest Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 1. Read the wiki documentation on it. Scroll down to downloads and follow it to the letter. http://wiki.oscommerce.com/helpAdminConfig 2. For each product you are assigning a download to, it is not enough to just put the filename in the box, you also have to assign an attribute to it ie an Option name and an option value. 3. I couldn't get mine to work until I installed Linda's Downloads Controller. This also includes Free Shipping which will be useful as I don't imagine you will be charging shipping on your memberships. 4. Try it with a downloadable file first, then you will be certain that everything works fine. Then try it with your link and we will see. HTH
MadhatterWales Posted September 7, 2003 Author Posted September 7, 2003 Fantastic! You are a gem! Thank you for all your help - it really is appreciated! Craig
Guest Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 Not a problem. I remember how stressed I was when I couldn't figure out downloads either. Half my store is downloads so it was a really big thing for me. I lay awake at night worrying about it. So did it work for the link then? That might be useful to know.
MadhatterWales Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 Tested it tonight with the current download feature on the site! and it worked! :D May have a go at the download controller - but looks a little complex to install!
Guest Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 Hey - if I can do it, any idiot can do it (no offence ;)) There is a help thread going on in Contribs at the moment about this: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34862 If you do install it, remember to change the database first otherwise the software will be trying to call stuff from the database that doesn't exist and you will get errors. Glad it worked for you. I will have to remember that for future reference. Did you put the form in the downloads folder as an HTML file then? And it brought it back OK.
MadhatterWales Posted September 13, 2003 Author Posted September 13, 2003 Going through it now - but a little lost when it mentions all the new config settings are in the downloads_controller.sql file - so what exactly do I do with this file???? Sorry to sound a little dull! :D Craig
Guest Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 Open the sql file in a text editor (Notepad is fine for this). Select and cut all the text, and paste in in the SQL query window in phpmyadmin (or whatever program you use to manage your database). Then click on GO and that should do the trick.
