To show sub categories only

does anyone know how to show the sub categories only.. Like i have seen there is a contribution that will allow you to show the top categories..

 

I would like to show the subcategories only as i have my main top categories on the tab menu...

Has anyone resolved this? Am looking only to show my sub categories also in the infobox - as i have the top level categories in my header.

 

most of the big ecommerce sites i have seen do this. has anyone else tried/succeeded?
