The e-commerce.

Too many 404 errors. Spent days and about to give up.

"Its feature packed out-of-the-box installation allows store owners to setup, run, and maintain their online stores with minimum effort and with no costs involved."

I doubt this. I've spent almost a week trying to get this thing to run. I've uploaded all the files three times, installed five times, searched these forums for answers, tried this and that, spent hours on the phone with my hosting provider, purchased a shared SSL, etc etc, and I'm getting more 404 errors than anyone wanting to buy a product from my site would put up with. I'm on the point of giving up and looking elsewhere for a shopping cart program, even if I have to buy one. I'm sure osCommerce can be got to work, but not by me.

The shop runs to a degree, but each time I leave the site and come back, I seem to have logged out of my account and when I try to log in again I simply get a 404, over and over again. Also, after having made a test purchase and click the CONTINUE button, 404 again. These are unacceptable. It may be the way I've set it up, or maybe bugs in the program - I've no idea. I'm simply not confident that more time spent will get me anywhere. What I need is someone who has this thing running to take me through the installation and maybe check my configure.php files - it may be something simple.

I would be most grateful for some sustained help instead of partial answers with no follow-up, otherwise I've had enough. I appreciate that there are people here trying to assist, but there are also many people with problems that aren't getting solved. If somebody has a problem I can help with, I will stick with it until it's fixed. That's what I need just now!

Sorry if this seems like a rant.

For the record, here are extracts from my catalog/configure.php and catalog/admin/configure.php files:

Does anything obvious jump out as a problem? I haven't looked at any other php files as yet because these seem to be the ones that people look at for configuration issues. If I could get these two files verified it would be a helpful start, so that if there's still a problem I can start to look elsewhere in the program. The two issues are still:

(i) users gets logged out when site is closed and gets 404 on attempting to log back in on next visit.

(ii) continue button after purchase gives 404 error but returning to catalog via navigation bar link is fine - user still logged in.

If I could fix these two problems it would be a great encouragement!

Matt, thankyou! A big improvement!

Now, when I log into my account, I don't get the 404 error, nor do I get it when I click CONTINUE after a dummy purchase. Excellent. I've only amended my catalog/configure.php file thus far. Do you see anything obvious in my catalog/admin/configure.php file? And is there any fix for the fact that each time I leave the site and come back again, I need to log in again?

Regards, with major thanks,

This is not a bug, but rather a security measure - you will also find that if you leave your computer unattended for a period you will need to log in. This prevents other users using the same computer to access another's account.

If what Matt posted worked in your catalog, use this for the admin define also:

define('HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER', 'https://secure.webhoster.co.uk/www.art-by-post.com');

Thanks. I've done that, with no apparent effect either way - the admin functions seemed to be working before I made the change, but they're not in secure mode even though SSL was enabled from the start. I've noticed that in catalog/includes/configure.php the SSL enable value "true" is like this:

whereas in catalog/admin/includes/configure.php it's like this:

Do you know if it makes any difference either way?
