SSL confusion

Recommended Posts

Hi people :)

I am new to OSCommerce and also the some aspects of SSL. I understand the concept of it and I have access to a shared certificate on my host's server.

I was wondering how I could jump in and out of a secure connection. How would I specify which pages would be sent and received over a secure connection and which pages wouldn't? I know I could actually type in the physical links e.g. https://blabla in html but this wouldn't work for relative links.

Where would I configure this? Also, if I were to have a login screen on my homepage the connection wouldn't be secure. How would I make the connection secure? For example, if I typed in hotmail.com in my browser it would use an insecure connection but when I log in there is some secure activity going on but I don't really know what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

If you set ENABLE_SSL in includes/configure.php to true, it will jump in and out of secure pages for you. Pages with personal information (login.php, checkout, and account) will be SSL. Pages with public information (product listings, etc.) will not.

Did you set the path to the shared SSL server in catalog/includes/configure.php something like:

  define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://www.pathtosharedsecureserver.com'); // eg, https://localhost - should not be empty for productive servers

 define('ENABLE_SSL', true); // secure webserver for checkout procedure?

 define('HTTP_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'www.yourdomain.com');

 define('HTTPS_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'www.sharedsecureserverdomain.com');
