The e-commerce.

Years ago I was using osC v2.3.3.4, started with 2.2 and kept updating the code.

I'm running Windows11, latest versions of XAMMP and tried osCommerce V4.

I can not get past V4 preinstall check as I receive the message that osC only runs on Linux.

I am not a programmer but can follow directions that are layed out.

Would it be possible to use an older version of osC and find the updates to make it secure and work with latest php?

Or is it not worth it or impossible to find the updates (which I can't seem to find)?

There isn't a list of all of the things to make it secure. But I have upgraded a number of old shops to work with php 8.2 so it can be done. It just takes a lot of time since some of the changes are unique. You may be better off installing V4 on a live server and working with it there.

There's a shop system developed by a german company called Shopware. It also has a declared incompatibility with Windows. At first glance, it still works. Problems only arise with certain actions.

I investigated one problem. It was caused by incorrect handling of path separators. This resulted in path information being output with a backslash for loading a JavaScript. This, of course, is a complete disaster.

In principle, the operating system should be completely irrelevant. But carelessness on the part of the programmer can lead to problems like this. We can only speculate as to why such bugs aren't fixed.
