What Port to Open on Firewall?

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have my webserver setup and my database on a server behind a firewall. What ports do I open both ways on the firewall to get the website to talk to the database.

Thank you for your time

Mike

From php.ini:

; Default port number for mysql_connect().  If unset, mysql_connect() will use
; the $MYSQL_TCP_PORT or the mysql-tcp entry in /etc/services or the
; compile-time value defined MYSQL_PORT (in that order).  Win32 will only look
; at MYSQL_PORT.

mysql.default_port =

The standard default is 3306 if this is not set in php.ini and the other two don't have values. AFAIK, like most services MySQL doesn't have a required from port and can use any of the unused ports above the defined ranges for the from.

Hth,

Matt
