Tar ball (.tar) and GZip (.gz) files format are Unix style of archive and compression. Much like Winzip/Pkzip. Tarball combines files to a single file and GZip compresses it - that is why file may gave *.tar (not compressed or not much) and *.tar.gz (IS BOTH combined and compressed).

On Windows machines I have had problems with Winzip on tarballs - use WinRAR - works great.

Ok using winrar extract it to the admin directory

it should contain

edit_textdata.php

et_help/

et_help is a directory with a bunch of jpg and html files in it.

edit_textdata.php should be directly in the catalog/admin directory.

You do not need to edit the tools menu if you feel it is too difficult. You can do this

http://yourwebsite.com/catalog/admin/edit_textdata.php

And it will bring it up.
