This is my first post, I hope I am doing it right.

I am a complete newbie to PHP and oscommerce. So far I have figured alot of things out, mainly by trial and error and MUCH by this forum. But there are a number of things I still cannot do. You all are so good at this, I don't know if I will ever get it :(

I need to change the Conditions of Use in my infobox to FAQ's. I changed this in catalog/includes/languages/english.php

// information box text in includes/boxes/information.php

define('BOX_HEADING_INFORMATION', 'Information');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_PRIVACY', 'Privacy Notice');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_CONDITIONS', 'Conditions of Use');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_SHIPPING', 'Shipping & Returns');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_CONTACT', 'Contact Us');

to:

// information box text in includes/boxes/information.php

define('BOX_HEADING_INFORMATION', 'Information');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_PRIVACY', 'Privacy Notice');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_CONDITIONS', 'FAQs');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_SHIPPING', 'Shipping & Returns');

define('BOX_INFORMATION_CONTACT', 'Contact Us');

Now... all my infoboxes look like this:

BOX_HEADING_INFORMATION

BOX_INFORMATION_SHIPPING

BOX_INFORMATION_PRIVACY

BOX_INFORMATION_CONDITIONS

BOX_INFORMATION_CONTACT

and I get the message:

Parse error: parse error in /home/thingsud/public_html/catalog/includes/languages/english.php on line 79

Thanks in advance

Debbie

If you've used,

define('BOX_INFORMATION_CONDITIONS', 'FAQ's');

you'll have to escape the single quote, like...

define('BOX_INFORMATION_CONDITIONS', 'FAQ's');

must be something else in your change.

I did this same thing

define('BOX_INFORMATION_CONDITIONS', 'FAQs');

and it works as you are trying.

Thanks, Blueline, but I am sure I didn't change anything else in the file. Do you know of any other file that might be wrong that could make this happen? I don't know if this helps, but when I first started this project, my browser would have the name 'thingsud' but now it just states, 'oscommerce'. I have changed so many things, I am not sure exactly where I am now.

If you're absolutely sure you haven't changed anything else in that file, you can try replacing it with a new english.php file.

HTH,

VJ

P.S.: BACKUP the existing file... just in case.

Take a look at this line of code:

define('BOX_HEADING_SEARCH', 'Quick Find');

Line 79 should look like this unless you did some edits to this file. Make sure you have a semicolon and everything looks the same.

I hope this helps.

Thank you to all who helped me :P . The problem was in english.php. For some reason, even though I uploaded the original, it was loading line 79 'What's New' as 'What's New'. (and I never touched that line).

Also, towards the end, the javascript error messages were all missing the slash, , character.

I corrected them all, saved and all was fine. But when I made a change to english.php, everything would go back to the file with the missing characters. I changed everything I think I will need, made all corrections, saved and downloaded into my original file as english2.php. I am hoping that if I have the problem again, I can just upload the newer file. If this won't work, or someone knows why this is happening, please let me know.

Thanks again for your support,

Debbie

There's a problem using file manager to edit the files, it drops the slashes here and there. There's a bit about it on the forum, you could search for the words.

I use Wordpad to do all my editing, and its fine.

Can't think straight, I've been up since 6am 11th after a couple of hours sleep and its now just gone 5am on 12th here in the UK. Must be midnight or something in Florida.

Anyway all I can think of is once you've found the wording can you replace it with a html tag <img src="">

I think I'm thinking straight, as least I think I am and I'm definelty still thinking,,,,,, where's the 'I'm very tiered emoticon :?:
