new items box - split into catergories?

Recommended Posts

Hi does anything like this exist?

I have a lot of similar items, so in my new items box, its a bit confusing.

Say I have a catergories like:

1. Images for publishing

2. Photographic Prints

3. Images for web publishing.

An image i am selling can be listed under all three categories. so when you see the new items box at the bottom of the main page, you would see 3 of the same image.

What I'm looking for is some way of splitting the categories so i would have 3 seperate boxes - "new images for Publishing", a "New Photographic Prints" and a "New images for web" all on the main page under each other.

has anyone made anything like this?

I use the featured products contribution instead of new items, that allows you to set which items show in the box.

It isn't quite what you are looking for, but it might work...

[no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]

thanks for the tip, I tried to install it but the instructions don't make any sense.

I'm using MS2 and i know the contrib was written for CVS.

* Add the following lines into /admin/includes/application_top.php,

 each line at the appropriate place in the file, TABLE_* going with

 the other TABLE_* define lines, etc.

 define('FILENAME_FEATURED', 'featured.php');

 define('TABLE_FEATURED', 'featured');

this doesnt exist in the file mentioned.

* Add the following line into /catalog/includes/application_top.php,

 define('FILENAME_FEATURED', 'featured.php');

 define('FILENAME_FEATURED_PRODUCTS', 'featured_products.php'); // This is the featured products page

 define('TABLE_FEATURED', 'featured');

* In /catalog/includes/application_top.php, insert the following lines

 right after the line that contains "tep_expire_specials();"

 // auto expire featured products

 require(DIR_WS_FUNCTIONS . 'featured.php');

 tep_expire_featured();

neither does this.

I gave up at that point. :(

isn't there anything that works with MS2?
