geigo Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Concerning... http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...ight=thinkbling Why did the topic get locked down before I could even respond? *EDIT* a month for online web store, some customization, technical support and severe hand holding for people that can barely check their email is very reasonable. A private IT/Web consultant's time is worth at least that much. Instead of locking a topic or sending spam saying a post is spam, why don't we try to get some constructive postings. *EDIT* - this is SPAM - Johnson
Hunkah Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 So the point they were trying to make was.... What was you question? You still din't ask a question. If you had asked a question, it might not have sounded like an ad! Which it still does! I didn't comment before, but I am now. I would have locked this one too, because you don't get it. If you need help, then ask... But then if you need help, what are you doing selling OSC in the first place!!!! You are screwed either way then aren't you!?
geigo Posted July 31, 2003 Author Posted July 31, 2003 Forums are for open discussion. Feel free to post whatever you like as long as it's in line with the rules. Be critical but constructive. Think there is way to better the site? Think the site is awful? Don't think you're going to hurt any body's feelings, say its awful. Then give a good reason why and a solution. Complaining without a proposed remedy only annoys. Everybody could learn a great deal from non-petty honest advice. [/u]
Guest Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 The thing is that about half the frequent posters here are consultants (not to mention that the developers themselves do consulting--how they get paid to make free software). If all of them posted stores selling web design every day, those posts would drown out the purpose of this forum which is to allow people to get constructive criticism when they put up a site. Posting here advertising web hosting and design is a great idea. Such a great idea that people thought of it almost immediately. As a result, rules arose to keep the forums from devolving into an adfest, where people posted purely to get their name out. You may feel that your one little post would not have been a problem. And you're right. However, if they allowed your post, then they would have to allow everyone to post. What about when you wanted to make a second post (after all, who looks at the My Store threads after people stop posting to them). They drew a line. One that was simple and easy to enforce: no attempts to solicit business. This may be unfair, but a more fair rule would be more difficult to enforce. With the variability of enforcement, it would lead to an even less fair result. Cheers, Matt
Guest Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 It wasn't enough to SPAM this forum once? Now you have to post again whining with a link to the original SPAM? There is no place on these forums where commercial posts are permitted. Period. Get over it and move on.
Hunkah Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Wow, have you ever thought about politics? That was very well said.
Guest Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 I have edited the url and lock that thread because: 1- your admin side was not password protected and wide open to anybody to check the possible orders with client info and potential cc# 2- anybody could of gone and hack the site (change price etc..) 3- there were no tax setup whatsoever The_Bear
Hunkah Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Crap, that was directed to Matt, iiinetworks not Zaq He jumped in ahead of me!
Guest Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 *Moved* - Johnson Geigo - do not begin threads like this in the My Store channel - in fact, if you have a problem with action taken by a Forum Moderator, you have recourse to speak with them by pm instead of this nonsense..... Pierre is a VERY reasonable man.... I am also sure that his action was fully justified.... do NOT post your service prices or anything to do with them to these forums again.
geigo Posted August 1, 2003 Author Posted August 1, 2003 Everybody is missing the point. It's definitely understandable with all the over-eager, annoying overflowing spam out there. The words might not have been chosen in the best way and the point may not have been the most direct. I'm looking for some pearls of wisdom concerning my site. There is a new post in My Stores at this address. It is a little more concise with what I'm looking for. Please message me if I have misposted, or have committed any forum "no nos" as posting the complaints straight to a thread only makes more clutter. [Edited] Read my PM The_Bear
