New category infobox for each category

Hi there,

Despite all posts I have added to this forum (which is probably one of the most best responded-to forums I?ve ever seen) I just wanted to say that osCommerce is great!

But I do have a question or possible feature suggestion.

At the moment we only work with main categories. In the near future (read: next week) we want to create several subs due to an expantion of our online shop. However, we?re not that enthousiastic about the way osCommerce handles subs.

What we would like is for each category and it?s subs to be displayed in it?s own category infobox. I know it?s probably not that difficult to program, but since I?m a PHP newbie I was wondering if there is any contribution that already has this feature, or if YOU might be able to build it as a new contribution to osCommerce.

Kind regards,

Hello:

I have seen a menu system in the contribs that when you mouseover the category it displays a listing of the products below it. Perhaps with a bit of alteration it could be utilized in a manner that you are suggesting. I think it is called "CoolMenu" but am not certain on that. If I had the time I would look at it but right now I am looking at a way of generating stylesheets from the database instead of having an individual one to control every site. I am trying to actually get a branded site system that will allow me to run several URLs all with different appearances through one database and keep track of what site they came from. The affilliate packages did this at one time but are very disconnected and do not run together on MS2. The new template base contrib seems to be a step in the right direction for such a project.

Thanks for your reply, but CoolMenu is based on dhtml and that is not the functionality I?m looking for. But good luck with your project, seems a bitch to me when it comes to the amount of work involved.

Anyone, please help out!
